Trading not too lucrative?

Am I the only one that thinks trading should be a fairly quick way to make money? Maybe nerf it a bit but it still has to be a viable alternative.

Elite and FFE were always about -not- having lots of boundries constricting play.

All the ships have something uniqie about them and so far the only one I've wanted to get out of is the Sidewinder.

I dont want to see ED becoming an Eve style grind-fest
 
Have to admit trading can seem like a bit of a grind to begin with but once you get to a Type6 then your profits increase quite dramatically and the money does start to roll in.
At the moment things are quite restrictive due to the fact you can only own 1 ship at a time but once multiple ownership comes in then you will be able to jump between trading and fighting as and when you choose, this will help break up the 'grind'(if people do think things are a grind)
 
I think it needs to be slowed down.

Getting to an Anaconda in a few days isn't going to help the longevity of the game.

It certainly shouldn't be the fastest way to earn money at the start - the Sidewinder should encourage you to try different ways to earn money so that you attempt different gameplay styles at the start.
 
Frontier has said they know trading is too lucrative.

I think it will be balanced in the future builds.
 
I think by now we've seen all colors of the spectrum passing by, going from extremely easy to extremely hard. It going to be a tough one to balance this to everybody's likes.

As long as the result isn't too easy. I would hate to have the biggest and baddest ship, fully equipped after a 2 weeks grind.
 
If you feel it is a grind then perhaps you are doing the wrong activity. You should not feel like what you are doing is a grind.

Starting out is a little slow but you should supplement trading with deliver message missions as they take up no cargo space and they pay rather well considering.

I am under the impression that none of the current rates of income are finalised and are all subject to change. Upon release the game will be a far more dangerous place and the risks will be a lot higher, slowing progress due to cargo and ship loss.

With the addition of tiered mission and mission chains and reputation pure trading will have to be supplemented with missions if you wish to earn decent reputation.
