Trading Still Sucks

Trading has always been a big part of elite games but unfortunately in dangerous it needs serious improvements. Here's what I thinks gone wrong...

  • Many commodities are not worth trading - low value - begin with small ships and have no cargo capacity - hard to make any profit
  • Many systems are producting only 2-4 commodities
  • Users are trading the same commodites as there are only a few you can make serious profit C700 +
  • Even systems who dont produce a commodity now have large stocks of commodites because of NPC trading and User trading therfore price is low.
  • Profit on commodities will keep on falling with more users coming in.
  • Stations are starting to fill with there HIgh Demand products - reducing price.

Please FD fix the trading its such a huge part of the game.

Its quick to make a couple of kills than to make some serious profit in trading. Trading should be the main source of income in the game... it always has been and is one of the most enjoyable parts of the game if you can actualy turn a good profit.

What does everyone think???

Totally agree. I came to the game to trade, at least until I get a decent loadout and can do some fighting. Right now trading is a frustrating, tedious mess. 10 - 15 minute FSD trips to make a couple of hundred credits per trip. TOTALLY DEMORALISING. I've played 4 hours tonight trading and made about 30k. I just don't want to play this game any more.

Not to mention it's almost pointless to play in Open as the queue for docking bays is just untenable.

Right now, hauling and sourcing missions help a lot with profits. In most sourcing missions, you'll get several thousands/tonne in profits.

And demands are rising. I've actually seen high demand on some stations today, and I recently traded Tobacco for 769Cr/tonne, which is a new post-release record in per-tonne profits for me.

OK, that is encouraging. I hope I see an increase tonight, I don't want to go back to mining.

Seriously - commodities list could be decreased by 80% without losing any functionality. Most of the goods are simply placeholders to work as content of delivery missions - tons of them can be replaced by a single more expensive item (for example 1 ton of beryllium can replace value of 4-5 tons of non-lethal weapons).

Try moving away from your spawn point, there are easy profits to be found.

Cheap items should only have small profit. Do a few haulage missions until you can afford to buy something worth more money. You shouldn't be making huge profit right from the beginning.

previously everyone was complaning that bountyhunting/exploring was sooooooo inferior to trading. maybe this is part of "balancing" ?

Did you consider that you're trading in the wrong place? If you're somewhere with docking queues, you're not likely to be the only one capitalizing on a juicy trading opportunity.

I think its worth waiting to see what the next trade fix does, when its released. MB has said they are aware of the background sim AI issue and know where the problem is. The economy is likely to even out though as the swing is reversed so it may reduce margins temporarily.

I want a game where 1 hour's gameplay is not made up of 50 minutes watching the FSD cruise screen waiting to decelerate and the other 10 minutes making a tiny profit margin trading.

if trade isnt good for you try other things like mine-missions-bounty hunting

I've been trying to do haulage but the Galaxy Map seems bugged. A Missions asks for me to fetch them commodity X. I accept then filter only trade routes for X on the Map. Find a nearby system that is shown exporting X and go there, but they have NONE. This has occurred over and over again and I can't see what I am doing wrong.

I agree that trading needs to be "tweaked" - but if you make it too profitable for small ships - it becomes game breaking when you look at the huge cargo carriers - they will make millions per trip.

I think there should be missions for 2-4 tons of cargo available that return a decent profit that would be great for the smaller ships, but beneath notice for the space cows...

I do wish that it was occasionally possible to make reasonable profits on all commodities. Superconductors, progenitor cells, silver anyone?

You know what? I have only made about 120K and one Adder and I have been playing since Alpha.
I'm not moaning. It's same mechanics as the original elite. Were there incessant moaning back then?
There is nothing wrong with trading, just get on with it.
