Trading vs Combat?

Is trading really all that much better than combat? Could it even really eclipse the credit yield from assassination missions? I mean, from what I've seen so far, trading is quite tedious and it's very hard to find a decent trade route that could easily beat the convenience of bounty hunting, assassination, and combat in general. Can someone please enlighten me?

Cheers

I make 360,000cr in about 10-12min (15min, if I need to fuel scoop) trading from Founder's World. You would have to do 2-2.5 of those high value assassination missions to equal that kind of payout, and I'm guessing those take far longer than 10min. My ship only has capacity for 284T of cargo. I'm not in the system economy wrecking monster space cow yet. One of those with 484T of cargo space would earn approx 600,000cr per 10min run.

Trading is the best, but only once you've found the proper trade route(s). Until then, it's indeed tedious.

why not do both at the same time traveling to and from systems and checking combat areas on the way

Yeah, basically USS combat or even NPC interdiction can be hit and miss, Iv found a nice spot that will seem to spawn mainly combat USS' and spent about an hour farming it last night and made about 300k in about an hour.

Depending on the trade route (most of the time is spent finding the routes) you can probably make somewhere between 40-70k per run with a Type 6 or an Asp and if you are lucky the runs only require a couple to 5 mins each way. This basically means you can do around the same amount as i did in combat in less than half the time.

All this being said, its good for your mental health to try both out :D Mix it up a bit

After a while the NPCs just plain stop interdicting you. In the past 72 hours I've been interdicted only 1 time, and it was an Elite Anaconda. I think the changes to interdiction made most NPC pirates cowards, they must be looking at ship values and/or combat ranking before deciding to interdict or not.

When I was in the Cobra or Asp everyone wanted to interdict me, and I'd submit to kill them to get the free credits. But now that I'm in the Python no one ever interdicts, except that one Anaconda.

I'm flying around in an Asp right now, and have dissapointingly few interdictions - only 3 times in the last 5 days, one of them a player.

My Type 9 is making 984600 with 484T in 10 minutes, minus the 2200 refuel cost to go 30ly. I do not fuel scoop in a ship that large, seems pointless and VERY dangerous.

So six runs an hour nets me 5,907,600, minus the 13,200 in fuel costs.

I keep a kitted Viper for my day-to-day income which is assassination missions, along with a Hauler which I do some across-galaxy rare goods trading in when I get sick of combat.

In an Asp I am making about a million an hour trading. Mix that in with the occasional fist-fight whilst on my travels makes for a very enjoyable experience thus far. In other words, do both.

Damn, maybe it's broken across the board then. I thought it was because most pirates were in smaller ships, and they didn't want a piece of the larger ones. They might have caved and made interdictions very rare in the systems with police patrols.

I used to get interdicted 2 or 3 times flying to the station in my Asp. But the forums kept complaining about too many interdictions, and now there's almost none.

I gotta get me one of those! How many runs before you bleed the planet dry though?

Wait are you sure the fuel cost is only 2200cr?? Because my Python costs 26,000cr to jump only 13.5LY. If the Type 9 which is twice as large is cheaper to operate than the Python something is seriously borked.

Trading is broken in my opinion.

I also think 3 party software that allows you to see prices where other people have been are kind of cheaty.
I think the problem lies with them, people are just clicking a button to get the best trade items and routes, then flying off to buy them all. They aren't having to explore and find those deal themselves.

Of course many, that use them, will say that, its just a bunch of people sharing trade information with each other. I've always considered 3rd party software that gives people an advantage over other people playing cheating.

Others will say, "oh but some people are unemployed, so they have an advantage because they have more time to play the game." To which my reply would be "lol"

The low rates and high capital needed plus the monotony of it all is actually what puts me off trading. I do hope they try to introduce more fun and balanced concepts in future updates.

Yea, I've noticed that high price goods don't have much of a profit edge over medium priced goods usually. But trading should be a bit of an economy of scale - as you gain more money to invest into it the larger your profits could be.

I've noticed that this curve kind of points down when you get to high-priced goods. I wish it didn't do so quite as much, but it's pretty good otherwise.

Haha I see those figures and think GOD DAMN!!! I thought I was doing ok making 15,000 cr in 15 minutes in my puny hauler :)
