Trading...What am i missing?

Hello guys,

First post, so go easy.

Can anyone help me out? i seem to be missing something crucial, but when it comes to trading i just dont see the "dynamic" nature of the markets.

All goods seem to have fairly static price ranges, and more often that not the profit is a few hundred credits per tonne of cargo, more over im struggling to work out how im even supposed to find these mythical trade routes that some folks here are claiming with thousands of profit per tonne.

what am i missing? baiscally how do you go about finding decent trading routes? im not looking for spoilers, just a step for a hint

Trading is pretty much broken at the moment, poor trade all over. I have found most chance of getting good trade runs are between refinery and industrials, trading metals, I usually make 1000cr a ton.

you basically need to travel about 6 systems away minimum and you will find big earners like gallite ect... which you then take back for big£££. ive been struggling myself as ive had one morphine related incident which ended up with my ship flying to close to the sun and blowing up with all my money invested in cargo... that was the first time I reached around 30,000 then lost it all... which seems like a lot when you first start.
well it did to me.. well im now back at around 27,000 and ive got 3 maybe 4 really good trade runs. I get the odd pirate but you can escape with a little effort.
when ive earnt enough for some better weaponry im going after the pirates...im taking names atm...lol

Also you can have the best price in dictator and some anarchy system. The dictator system looks to have the lowest price of almost item. But the risk to be attacked by pirates is more hi.

Dont waste your time - use Slopeys Tool. The only way to find decent routes is manually combing all stations with a lice comb, because the info FDs fantastic system gives you is utter bu ll. If you find that entertaining - youre welcome. If not use BPC.

Trade is a little broken atm, the markets are all over the place; counter-intuitive and low profits. If you like space trucker game-play, stick with it, and it will get fixed eventually. The most profit you'll see will be about 1000C per tonne, probably less by recent indications.

If you'd prefer to trade, travel, explore and a little combat along the way; Rare commodity trading might be your thing. They're items that increase in value the further you travel from the point of origin, but can only be purchased in small quantities. They're really ideal for new pilots with small cargo holds. You should aim to travel min 160LY for best profits, approx 16k per tonne. If you pick up Rares at one station, plot a route to another Rare commodity station about 160LY, sell and purchase more, repeat, you'll be in good money in no time. Theres a lot of info about rares to be found, heres a start: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=63119&highlight=rare

Good luck!
