Traffic congestion in open

To be fair, I do this in Solo, cause theres really no need to do this in open. But if one would do it in open, I can see how it could be a problem at outposts. Stations on the other hand do have more landing pads than the max number of players that can be in an instance if I remember correctly, so that shouldn't be an issue.

This was the situation at Ito Orbital not so long ago...

Not a problem... yet. But this was 3PM in the afternoon. I can see it getting quite a bit busier later.

Add the shield issue and even some stations might get a bit crowded.

Oh I've seen stations with more than 10 commanders docked/docking in the last few days, but still, due to the amount of available pads, I never had any issues.
And to be honest, how often do you sell/change your Shield Generator?
Not that I have a problem with faster charging at stations, it's a good idea.

But surely given that a space station has 45 landing pads and the maximum number of players in an instance is 32 you're going to find it pretty unlikely to have a situation where the whole station is busy. Even including NPCs that seems relatively unlikely, and certainly for any extended period of time.

On a Cobra it's not an issue.

But on an Anaconda, Python, or FDL it's a pretty severe issue. Even returning from a CZ or particularly tough assass.. uhm... "bounty" with 50% of shielding left can mean an extended wait inside a station.

At stations the problem shouldn't be much of an issue (although it may end up being an issue for larger ships due to the combination of this and the shield problem). At outposts it can be a bit of a though.

I was in Bhritzameno recently and there were about 25 CMDR's looking to take advantage of the 20% discount. It was really busy.

But only 15 are 'large' so if you have more than 15 large ships. Has anyone ever got 'docking permission denied' off a station before? I've only ever got it at an outpost.

Yep but outposts have always been like that.

Honestly I don't find the shield thing that much of a problem. You just need to relax about leaving the station without your shields being full.

I was going on the fact that he was flying a Cobra.

And no, I've never had docking permission denied at a station or heard of anyone who has.

I actually would love to experience that.

I haven't, and I'm usually flying a T7. But in the early days I took some missions where 10 to 15 ships were waiting at an outpost to dock. The good times of the starter systems :D
Going solo to dock is also always an option, although not an elegant solution to the problem.
And we're still missing a docking queue, when not using a docking computer..

My .02Cr: Rather than instant recharge at stations, have a recharge-for-pay mechanism. The cost would be the same cost as a refill on a Shield Cell Bank (because that's what it really is - you're just using one of the station's SCB's).

Adding, or upgrading SCB will reset shields, so it isn't only shield generator.

On the point of shield recharge I often find its worst when smuggling not outfitting.

Silent running, get in, disengage SR and dock.
Sell cargo, buy return trade goods.
Ready to launch and boom, still have a good 90 seconds or more to sit and twiddle thumbs until ready to launch. Theres only so many times you can check up on powerplay and galnet.

On the point of instancing and pads.
The only time you should get docking problems at stations is if the vast majority of CMDR's are flying the same class of ship (Large/Medium/Small). With an even 33% mix or even a 40/40/20 there is no way to fill all the stations pads. However, if 25 CMDR's all flying T9's/Clippers/Anacondas come in then of course there are not enough large pads to land on and problems may occur.

As for loading the game, yes it is possible to glitch into another CMDR but that has mostly been fixed now, you should be moved to an available pad or put in a new instance. I often find I land at the front pad of a station and when I restart the game am now at a back pad.
