Guide / Tutorial Training - Scenarios

I decided to train in management and go through all the additional scenarios in training (second tab)

Around the middle of the list and down, scenarios with incident waves of opponents. With helpless and newcomers, I went through and proceeded to the specialists.

And I don’t understand something? There I am on a Viper with an ECM, lasers and guns. Barely (and even not always) it turns out to cope with the first enemy and the second wave appears. ; (

Is it really that complicated or what's with my hands?
The enemy is pouring missiles, as I did not try to use the ECM, it seems to me that this device does not work :(

Nobody uses the ECM, it is considered a waste of a slot. Point defence is the anti missile weapon of choice, if you have one at all.
AFAIK, you have to press and hold till it charges or something, so you have to have some distance to your enemy or be precient.

Sorry, did you try to complete the mission here that I described above? There is no choice of weapons ...

No I haven't, and wouldn't as ECM use is not a skill I would find useful. That's what this scenario sounds like it is for.

I did give 2 bits of advice on use of the ECM if you want to try and complete it. (3 if you include 'dont bother') ;)

How ECM works I kind of knew before. It?s just that when I went through this scenario, I got the impression that it doesn?t work correctly. Or all this is very difficult or I don?t understand something.
I tried many times to complete this mission and only barely can barely kill the first opponent.

ECM only works against seeker missiles and the effect is shortlived AFAIK. I never did those training missions but maybe they shoot dumbfire missiles or a mix of dumbfires and seekers? If you can't install a point defense then manoeuvring is your only defence against missiles. They fly at 750 (dumb) or 625 m/s (seeker) so a really fast ship can outrun them. Outmanoeuvring dumbfires is fairly easy if not launched at point blank range but the seekers are hard to evade until they run out of fuel. You can shoot them down with your regular weapons but you need to be a real ace to pull that off.

I don’t know how well ECM works when fired as I decided long ago that any missile defence that took 10 seconds or more to charge before it worked was of no use to me.

A lot of the training missions are deliberately difficult this is down to the difference between a tutorial which is designed to teach you something and training which is where you practice to improve the skills you were taught if training is too easy you will only improve enough to beat easy opponents.

The usual advice to people struggling with a training mission is to ignore it as things are easier in the actual game not least because there you can choose your own ship and equipment.

I don’t think that in a special training they put rockets without self-guidance and ECM.
Personally, it seems to me that the ECM is either broken or does not work properly, I have been playing the Elite for a long time and it seems to me that the ECM is practically not in demand among players.

I remember when I played Elite1 and when I heard an exclamation - "INCOMING MISSILE", my hands reached for the [E] key.

It may be worth writing a proposal to revise the mechanics of the ECM?

There is a suggestions forum, a sub forum of Dangerous Discussions, if you are thinking about making such a submission it would be a good idea to search through that for all previous suggestions for changes to the ECM system so as not to duplicate a previously rejected idea.

For me Point Defence seems better than ECM not least because it is automatic, yes I know that doesn’t help in training when they haven’t fitted it for you.
