Transfer cargo between ships while in dock

Would you like to see cargo transfers to different ships while docked?

a suggestion to allow players to transfer cargo between ships while in dock and allow them to move cargo from ship to ship that is docked in the same station instead of having to carry it everywhere while seeking out goods for engineers etc.:D

or even buy and strip a ship out to use as storage ship to keep all the other ships empty of cargo unless needed.

or create a storage module thats configurable based on size and cost and have it in every station for every players account so players can store cargo in the storage module at any time for a weekly cost and based on the size of the storage container. Ship cargo transfer to storage module also avail in station once you have rented the use of the storage module.

Im CMDR XZ92HB2N, pleased to share my thoughts to help make this game all it can be with all our help.

feel free to share yours if you think storage is a good idea or ship to ship cargo transfer while in station to say a storage ship stripped out. Or at the very least include cargo insurance with ship insurance to replace the cargo when killed as well as the ship.

Already happens automatically when you swap ships with enough cargo space.
The OPs suggestion is more than taking cargo when you swap ships. It would (AFAIK) allow you to offload cargo from your current ship into a stored ship - effectively gaining local storage at a station.

This would open the market for buying stripped-out transports to use as private warehouses. A stripped down T7 would provide 112 tonnes storage for 1.2MCr for example, or a Hauler 22 tonnes for 63kCr.

Trouble is with auto cargo transfer to other ships when swapping into them is you may not want to take the cargo with you but this new update forces you too and in doing so your more likely to be inderdicted and lose the lot, or is that the whole idea from those that created the game, code the game and who are elites themself not wanting other players to catch up so to speak. This is probably why the game is now a lot tougher and more challenging to survive. A lot of updates have been great though and they certainly know their way around the source code. 5 Stars all round to the programming team.

Another suggestion would be

Create storage modules that players can purchase depending on size and charge accordingly either daily, weekly, monthly out of their credits for the use of the storage modules. This would be completely upto the player if they want to go down that line.

Storage modules could have different tiers just like shields etc and be more costly to hire the larger they are

example

1) 50 tonne - 1000cr a week
2) 75 tonne - 1500cr a week
3) 100 tonne - 3000cr a week
4) 250 tonne - 6000cr a week
etc

at least then all players are not forced to carry all their cargo in whatever ship they fly around in and can then consentrate on cargo aquisition for engineers upgrades etc.

You could even allow for material transfer into storage module as well with varying space depending on weekly cost.

or downgrade/upgrade storage module as and when needed just like all other ship internals etc.

just an idea but think everybody would use it and it would make the game a lot more enjoyable as well instead of losing ships and cargo.

Or even just alter the ship insurance which can include the cargo if killed.

Thanks Trollson for your better description you were right on the ball
Thanks YinYin also should have made myself a little clearer, hope the above addition does explain what I meant better

As-is Transfer cargo to other ship: This is the worst feature, this is the worst feature, this is the worst feature.

I think this poll is about using a storage ship (essentially)...

It's great that you can take all your literal junk with you now to your new ship, but I think many players if not all players are in the same boat right now; You can't buy a new ship with enough cargo space (conveniently), if you should need to switch ships for ANY reason.

I don't want to mine 1T of Praseodymium, I want to mine 50T...

Because you know why? It reduces the amount of shenanignas involved in getting the mining ship out/equipping mining, then flying to a system, then finding the material... then blah blah blah... then if you want to do anything else go through all of that over again.

That is not playing the game, that is busy work for NO REASON. I would dare say no one needs busy work, but I am sure there are a few fringe cases (as with anywhere) who enjoy the act of docking, undocking, watching modules swap, clearing inventory space, etc.

Please! Give us Storage! PLEASE!

absolutly its about storage and why not its great idea that will benefit everyone in the game, I agree totally with you Moosepickle.

Should have left the ships with their own cargo allowing you to swap into another ship even though you have cargo inside or buy a new ship and store the old including the cargo, but you know how some want to spoil a good thing sometimes and end up creating a frankenstein. I think the auto cargo transfer is a frankenstein how its turned out.

At least ask the player

Do you want to transfer the cargo of current ship into the new ship Yes/No

at least players would have a choice then.

However the storage situation should have been looked into even at early stages of the game development knowing fine well that players would evolve in the game and mine more or carry more or trade more etc. SO why wasnt this considered in the game in the first place and why hasnt it been added in the last 2 upgrades when the game was evolving massively in many directions. Obviously players are going to need storage and not just fly around with a few hundred tonne of one thing or another and thats it. It kinda limits the game and what you can do really.

Storage is urgently needed since the Engineers Update. Overall I love the update, however this is one aspect I DO NOT like. To have to take your cargo everywhere is very frustrating. You cannot easily change to a smaller ship, for that quick mission or courier ship run. If you get killed, you loose the cargo that you were 'storing' for the engineers. At least your materials are safe.

However, I don't think that 'storage' ships is a good option either. I would prefer storage that you can PURCHASE, not RENT at a chosen star port. I think this would be a better option. IMHO.

I like your thoughts though great idea and Im completely open to any ideas and thoughts we all need to help make this game better than what it is now and I do think storage is lacking in the game massively especially with a fully rigged Cutter carrying 528 tonne. how are you going to swap back into that ASP for a short haul or mission, you wont be able to anymore if the cargo exceeds the ASPs hold. This does have major issues in the game

We need storage 100%. How its done its upto those that code but it must be done at some point in the future not just for cargo but for materials as well.

I too love the engineers upgrade though they have done an amazing job with it and its opened up the game massively.

Shame about some of the missions though such as REDACTIONS, PAPER CHASES etc disappeearing should have kept those in was a good rank building process stacking missions.
