Transfer my account from ps4 to pc.

Even without a carrier starting from scratch isn't what it used to be. There's much more credits about now. Just remember to buy a ton of hydrogen and sell it at the next station for that Lei Cheung access as I believe that's a noticeably more of a grind second time round.

That's what would stop me giving up my account. Engineering unlocks, guardian unlocks, tech broker unlocks, navy ranks, elite rank, powerplay module shopping...

Definitely agree that losing all that for credits on the new account isn't worth it.

I wasnt aware of this. Not that I was planning to, but still... Its not like we are getting VR either.

How these people could make such a good game, is beyond me...

Being able to transfer career progress in GTAV from Xbox 360/PS3 to PC/Xbone/PS4 was a godsend, however it was only a limited time thing (which came around twice if I recall?) and only to one platform (or I didn't have a PS4 at the time, and could've gone to both PS4/PC? ~Dunno).
You could however still play in GTA Online with your old character, just any further progress wouldn't be saved to your "Online" Profile as that was now in the newly ported character.

I was a little annoyed how they didn't make it at least a more frequent event, given that everyone knew it was a very possible thing and people upgrade at different times. Ended up with a PS4 version of GTAV that I've not even bothered with 'cos all the progress I'd made, I quite frankly didn't care to repeat.
Rockstar are apparently going to be doing another one-time transfer from Last Gen Consoles to Current Gen for the Enhanced version of GTAV.

The same was with Battlefield 4 from 360/PS3 to Xbone/PS4, albeit only same Platform transference IIRC and I had no intention of getting an Xbone, but it was 2013 afterall and the thought of cross-generational anything was still in its infancy.

I would hate to have been playing ED on PS4/Xbone for a couple of years, want to experience the game for all its glory on the PC and have to go through all that immeasurable grind for Engineers, PowerPlay modules and all that again....
Some people are into multiple accounts, but for me I've always been a singular account type of person. I don't have time to waste doing the same thing multiple times, my only exception so far was BF4 on the PC, starting from scratch due to non Cross-Generational progress. But I was fine with that as it didn't take that long.

Now I'm only going based off the information I've read here, but you've purchased Elite Dangerous, spent time (and maybe money) on your character and progression, and when you opt to transfer your character name over, all your progress and purchased additions get left to the void in favour of your monetary assets only, AND your previous account is deleted?
Damn.

Damn.

It seems so unnecessary, when you compare it to how easy it is to e.g. start playing Destiny on PC , and then seamlessly switch to PS4/5 using the same account.

It also makes zero sense that the accounts can't be transferred over when there's 3rd-party sites (Inara, EDSM, etc.) that can tell you everything about a player regardless of what platform that person is on (as long as that person has connected their account to the site).

Has anyone from Frontier explained why they can't transfer progress and content across platforms?
Not in a big official statement, back in 3302(?) i wanted to transfer my Fuel Rat decal from PC to PS4 so contacted support.
This was at the time a quite limited decal (only a certain number were assigned to rat overseas to hand out), was "free" (so not a paid with real money cosmetic), and the assets were on both platforms (so not a technical issue from that point).

I was told that it wasnt possible to just transfer the decal, and to be assigned a decal directly to my PS4 account (which couldnt be done, because Rat policy was only one decal per human, irrespective of number of accounts you had).
iirc they said i could do a full account transfer to PS4 to get the decal across, but would lose all other cosmetics, as PSN paid for stuff was a separate system. Maybe this was because of real-world financial accountability or Sony policy or something, but was implied as why cosmetics cant move.

This still doesnt explain why everything else cant, like rank or engineer unlocks, which i suspect could be complexity of database scripting required, as other issues fdev have had indicated things like weird foreign key constraints in their tables, and maybe one day if cross-play or cross-save happens this will all be a moot point.

tl;dr hinted that paid-for content is the issue

I suspect they've built themselves into a corner by e.g. separating the deployment of online front-end infrastructure per platform as and when they deployed to PC, Xbox , PS4.

The paid content and discoveries I can understand. Storefronts will have terms in place that prevent content being bought outside of the ecosystem. But ships, modules, rank, money, and engineer unlocks should be easy.

I can't help but feel it's possible but it's not a priority for FDEV.

Or it could be that they they think grinding over and over equals player retention. A lot of developers of online games seems to think that.

Despite all loses it worth it. Play ED with a good joystick is amazing.
I don't consider myself a "real gamer", but looking back I've played most popular games since the VIC-20. Nothing beats ED in VR with a Hotas, except maybe Assetto Corsa in VR using a wheel and pedals.

A PC player, in one of the Odyssey threads, was complaining because he felt FDEV is "leaning towards consoles too much." I think we're playing different games.
