Transfer Saves Game Across Console Platforms

Currently I play on Xbox One and would like to start playing Elite on my playstation due to the fact that playstation 4 has access to HOTAS joysticks. What would the possibility be of Frontier being able to allow transfers of save games across consoles? Another way to do it is instead of being able to play the same account on multiple systems, maybe do a one time save import similar to the import Grand Theft Auto used when the next gen version of the game released.

Not planned at the moment.

Can I transfer my CMDR save to the PS4™ from my PC, Mac or Xbox?
We understand this is a desired request but we have nothing to announce at this time.

Not going to happen... it may be the same game but its an entirely different operating system. There's also a huge risk of data corruption during the importing meaning if it did work, there is no guarantee that all the data would transfer. FD is better off forcing you to create a clean save rather than having to create patches or hotfixes due to data loss

Your knowledge of software abstraction is pretty lacking and it shows. The game code running on all systems is more or less identical, as the game sits on top of the platform APIs that handle all of the interfacing between the game and the various different HW configurations. The fact that each platform runs a different OS is irrelevant.

What is far more likely to be a problem is the networked system that handles CMDR names, as on PC these are unique identifiers that are created in the game application for each player, whereas on consoles, these would be tied to your PSN and XBL IDs... hence they may have to overhaul those systems completely to allow for transfer of saves between different platforms.

Additionally, I would imagine that multiplayer matchmaking servers for each platform are also different, as currently no game offers cross platform online play between Xb1 and PS4 and I don't think ED will be the first to do it.

Agree! Due to comannder naming it well might be that the savegame uses different commander names on different platforms. Most people ( like me ) have a different Commander Name then the Name they use as PSN ID. So syncing progress back and forth might get tricky. This stated I would be more then please already if they would alow to at least import your current PC Commander Status into your ( newley created ) PS Account even if only once...

If you mean moving all your assets I personally hope they don't do this, at least not initially.

It will be nice that on PS4 everyone is new and has nothing apart from sidewinders. I know that people who have played it on other platforms will already have the advantage but it would be nice at least for the first little while that asset wise everyone is equal. I guess after a few days all bets will be off as whoever has the most time, has the most stuff from a pure grind of money if people choose that route.

Can someone give me the logic of why the developers would want to allow people to import their previous saves onto PS4? I can see very little compelling pressure to allow cross platform import.

By all accounts, ED is a grind game. A good grind game, but a grind game. You do things, hopefully get a bit better, which lets you do more things. Depending on how you do, you will get to a natural ceiling at some point and will start to focus on other aspects of the game.
Once a percentage of commanders get to this point, a number of them will stop playing (and stop paying for store items such as decals or future upgrades)

By allowing commanders to transfer a save across that is already a certain distance down that path, the developers will be accelerating people to that point.

The only reason(s) I can see why they would allow for game save import (even if it was technically possible) would be to either entice commanders to move off of problem platofrms (PC, MAC or Xbox) or because they felt that the take up on PS4 would be low.
But I don't see either of those two drivers being particularly strong

This is what I'm looking forward to the most with the PS4 launch!

Why would anybody care what others have?!? It's a vast galaxy with ganzillions of NPCs and Players... If I can't kick your A** today I will smack you to pieces tomorrow... who cares... would annoy me big time to level up once again a lot more than having somebody top me ( trillions of people do ). Everybody keeps babbeling about equalness here in the PS4 Forums but I simply do not get the point... equalness will end 0.1 sec after they start the server....

I agree but the point is that everyone starts off with a blank slate which will be a refreshing change for some, especially as most PS4 players will be new to the game and so won't have to drop into a game already full of players with more assets.

If I had to guess I'd say "no" - mainly because it would break progression for the new market.

Sit at ERAVATE in whatever end-game ship you run, (worse if engineers transfers) and nuke any player dumb enough to submit to an interdiction.

It's like a new server for an MMO - there is a unique element to the "freshness" of leveling - especially for those who've already played the game - who will have just as much of an advantage.

I'm not a fan of this idea. I think its a great chance for a bunch of players to start back at zero. No - there will not be 'equalness' ever, on a global platform not even close!!! How many PC owners also own PS4 and want to play across both platforms, with 2 years of in-game experience and tactics? Yes plenty of noobs will be sent packing because they are flawed or griefed or whatever we're calling it these days - but I hope not! Newcomers should take hope in SOLO play until they get good enough to hold their own. But it would be a shame if a single player could import 2 billion credits and 20 ships straight into the game and start inflicting problems. Vanilla start for everyone!!
