Transfer ships so you can strip and sell, versus remote selling

Hello

Is it more cost beneficial to transfer a ship that you wish to sell, and sell the modules individually before selling the ship itself, or just choose the sell remotely option?

Thanks

Sell the parts first.

If the ship is too far away to import, then just sell the whole thing remotely. You lose either 10% or 15% on modules still on the ship when the ship is sold. That penalty does not apply if you sell the parts back first, as you are given 100% of your investment back when you do it that way.

Thanks for your reply- I know that it's usually better to sell the modules first, however I suppose my question was more relating to how the transfer fee compares to the hit for selling the modules with the ship if done remotely.

Edit: I'm assuming transfer fees are negligible, but it would be good to have some confirmation

Take the cost of the hull+modules, subtract the cost of a "bare" hull, and you have the cost of the modules. Multiply the cost of the modules by the afore-mentioned 10-15%, and see if that's drastically more than the ship transfer fee. Make your choice, and wait for the ship to show up. If we're using a 100MCr as fitted ship where the hull costs 25MCR, we're left with 75MCr of modules. 10% of that is 7.5MCr, 15% is 10.75MCr. Say it would cost maybe 1MCr to transfer this ship and it would take 30 minutes to get there. Say you could earn 2MCr in that half hour doing an activity of your choice. 7.5-(1+2)=4.5MCr you'd save by parting out the ship ahead of selling the hull.

As an example anyway. YMMV, spend 2 minutes crunching numbers on a napkin and do what makes sense for you.

That's some math you'd need to do for yourself, as the answer to the question will vary from ship to ship and from distance to distance.

If you're moving to Colonia, for example, selling your ship in its entirety is obviously going to be the correct choice in every scenario.

But if you're in the bubble...say moving 200LY...and are moving a fully A rated Conda...well that might be around $60 million you're throwing away if you don't sell off the parts first. In that case, paying the $8-$15 million to move it will give you a net gain of an extra $50+ million because you can sell off the parts for full value. That's a big deal, as some internal components are upwards of $150 million. 10%-15% of that is not chump change and that's just one part. Does that make sense?

I'd say for 90% of moves inside the bubble, selling the internals makes sense unless the ship is of such low value that the effort isn't worth your time.

Get a long ranged hauler/asp/anaconda, travel there to strip the parts and travel back.

Unless you're in Colonia, this shouldn't take too much time provided your jump range is decent. Decide whether this time investment is worth saving you the napkin mathematics or making a guesstimate and possibly losing out on some money.

The most cost efficient way is always to travel to the ship and then strip and sell it, but if the only options are to either transfer or sell directly, then it depends on how expensive the ship's modules are, and the distance you're transferring the ship.

If the ship is mostly E rated it's going to be most cost efficient to just sell it, but if it's A-rated then it's going to be most cost efficient to transfer then strip and sell, up until the cost to transfer is ~9% of the ship's total cost or more, but that's quite the distance to transfer... I'm not actually sure if that's possible within the bubble and outlying systems. (I've used ship transfer once, so I have no idea how much the cost scales)
