General / Off-Topic Translation of the five deaths

As a native English speaker, and not knowing much in the way of spanish or its variants, I was curious as to what the five deaths actually mean when translated, if any of the below is wrong, let me know and please answer those I don't know:

Isla Matanc(c)eros - Suicide Island
Isla Muerta - Murder Island
Isla Pena - Pain Island
Isla Tacaño - Barren Island ( This one comes up as Stingy or Miserly, but I dont think this is the correct translation in English in keeping with "death", one cant die for being tight-fisted, So I'm assuming that Tacano is related to starvation or lack of resources?)
Isla Sorna - I don't know does this have some meaning?

I’m not a Spanish speaker either, but I’ll share what I know (or at least my understanding);
-I’ve always seen Matenceros translated as “Slaughter”
-“Muerta” is just “death” itself, I’m not sure what the verb for “to murder/kill” is but this doesn’t look like a verb.
-My understanding is that they are called the 5 Deaths because of the Native American legend involving them, but the Spanish names for them are not tied to that legend. However, “Barren” still seems acceptable to me.
-I think Pain is what google translate spits out, but I recently watched a YouTuber who’s accent made it clear to me they knew Spanish and English was their second language- they referred to Pena as “‘Punishment’ or ‘Sorrow’”. That makes sense cause it’s probably from the same Latin root English gets “pen”, “penal”, and “penitentiary”- Pena is Alcatraz for your most dangerous experiments.
-Crichton in The Lost World book offers “Sarcasm” as the translation, but the above mentioned youtuber translated the word as “scorn”.

I don’t remember the guy’s name but there isn’t a lot out there so YouTube search lore on La Cinqo Muertes and you’ll likely find it.

I will comment a bit on the subject, although these names are written with a lack of spelling (something typical that can be confused from English to Spanish).

I will give some examples and / or synonyms of the names of the islands.

Isla Nublar: Island Cloudy, Fog, Cloudy, (There is a lot of fog in this place).

Isla Muerta: Death Island, Death, (There is no life in this place).

Isla Pena: Isla Penosa, Sadness, Phantom, Ghost, Purgatory (When people die and they become ghosts, you are ambulan by certain places, living people like you and me, In Latin America this phenomenon is called "Alma en Pena" <soul wandering aimlessly>). It can also refer to a penitentiary, when someone commits a crime, the judge will give a jail sentence.

Isla Tacaño: Isla Tacaño, Egoista (Defined to a person who refuses to give something he owns, usually does not tend to spend money, some resource or thing that he has, prefer to invest as little as possible to save money).

Isla Sorna: Isla Ironica, Sarcasmo, (It refers to when people try to say something really in a tone of mockery, sarcasm.) Also depending on the context, one could say that it is about referring to the night, that when the night<as a jargon>; Comes, we will surrender to sleep, go to sleep).


Bring all this to the context of the Universe of Jurassic Park:

Isla Nublar: We are shown an island with a lot of fog in the beginning.
Isla Muerta: Not much is known about this.
Isla Pena: Not much is known about this.
Isla Tacaño: Not much is known about this.
Isla Sorna: In the movie, almost everything happens during the night.

So, this is how the island names would roughly translate:

Isla Matanceros: Well...I don't know the English word for it. "Matancero" is someone who works in a slaughterhouse, so..."Slaughterhouse workers Island" (it sounds better in Spanish)

Isla Muerta: Dead Island (as in "the island is dead")

Isla Pena: "Pain" Island. (like "Pain" being the name of the island, not "island of pain")

Isla Tacaño: "Stingy" Island. (same as Isla Pena. "Tacaño" means someone who is selfish with money issues, and in the game you start this island with negative money and losing it. The game is being stingy, not helping you)

Isla Sorna: "Sarcastic tone" Island (I don't know why they choose it...other than it sounds cool. "Isla Sorna")

Isla Nublar: "Befog" island (Because of the constant mist and fog)
