Newcomer / Intro Transport Mission Aborted

Hi all,

Hopefully you can help me... I accepted a transport mission without realizing it was way farther away than I was going to be able to manage in my current ship, so I abandoned it. I got a fine, all well and good since I basically stole the cargo... but the cargo is still taking up slots in my hold, and I can't access my cargo bay... The game says I'm carrying illicit goods. How do I either A) sell these goods to at least make up for my fine, or B) get the goods out of my cargo bay? When I try searching online, I am not finding anything related to this problem, other than some posts saying it is a known bug in the game? But those posts don't seem to be directly related to the exact situation I am facing... Is it a bug? If not, how do I handle this situation? I can't get any new missions because 3 of my 4 cargo bay slots are being utilized by this illicit cargo... Thanks in advance for any pointers!

Quick edit: This is actually the second time this has happened to me. The first time I just started my profile over, but I don't want to have to do that this time.

Another edit: As usual, I just suck at the game. I didn't know the cargo option on the left hand terminal was for cargo scanning and the right terminal was for your own cargo. I have officially discarded the illicit cargo. Hopefully others will see this before posting.

Next time that happens, you can find a station with a black market to sell your illegal cargo.

Bring up some database like Thrudds: http://elitetradingtool.co.uk/
Go to Search
Check "Blackmarket"
Enter the system name where you are at
Select a search range
Press the Search button

Sort the results by distance by clicking on the Distance header

Fly and your ship to one of those stations listed, if you aren't at one already
Access Station Services
Contacts
Black Market

You will be able to see your illegal goods and sell them there.

I can't remember, should he try to dodge the patrol scans if those goods are "stolen" but aren't banned?

If you don't want to risk getting scanned and fines, go to the cargo section on the right hand ui. You should be able to find some options to get rid of the cargo. Only do this while docked, or out of a stations no fire zone.
