Transportation ride coverage

When you’re building one of the transportation rides, do you like for it to cover the entire zoo, or just one section (like one continent)? How many habitats do you aim for it to cover?

Additionally, do you build the whole ride first and make your habitats around it, or the other way around? Seems difficult to build a ride around existing habitats, but also difficult to plan so many habitats at once around a ride!

It's best to plan ahead for transportation in the early stages of your zoo as an ideal transport may need to destroy or rework a whole load of path work and habitats. Personally I plan transportation routes as soon as my entrance habitat is complete usually by placing the first station in the entrance plaza for good guest connections.

For coverage it entirely depends how big your zoo is and what kind of transportation you are thinking of.
  • 4x4 safari tour - typically just one large Africa savanna habitat although I have done up to 4 smaller ones. I wouldn't make this a main method of transport with usually just one station for a animal viewing ride rather than moving guests. So good for one area of the zoo
  • Boat - only used in similar use to the 4x4, of course requires a waterway to travel. I have seen people make island zoos making the boat the only method of transport
  • Monorail - handy for smaller areas with multiple stations if wished. Low volume of guests despite popular belief so not good for bulk transportation
  • Gondola - ugly but great point to point transport. Multiple stations on the perimeter of the zoo can be used and works better than the monorail in my experience
  • Steam train - highest capacity transport which I say is the best option for zoo travel between different zones. You can lay tracks over existing paths for a train crossing , just make sure you don't need to edit that path in the future
