Newcomer / Intro Travel to Sol

I have a permission to go to Sol. I'm currently about 100 LY away from Sol. I seem to have problems with finding a route to Sol. I have an Adder with class C frame shift drive, and the jump range is a bit over 13 LY. It looks like stars are getting more sparse closer to Sol, and I can't easily get closer. Do I need a higher class FSD?

Yes. What do you have at the moment? Get closer to Sol and the map will be able to map a route out for you based upon economic routes, but I would get an A grade FSD asap.

You should be able to reach Sol with a 13ly FSD. I mostly fly in smaller ships with about that range and I get around okay.

Also, if you're over 80 or 90 ly from a system (like Sol) the route planner may not be able to plot a rout out that far. You may have to plot the route to a system closer to you than Sol, but in that general direction.

Yes you have permit for Sol, but think you might be disappointed when you get there. Do not rush it is not as urgent as game makes out and nothing waiting for you when you get there. Unless you setup home there and start trading, which you can do anywhere.

I went to Sol the first time with a Cobra with about 12/13 Ly range. I just planned a few points in between Sol and LHS 3447 to lay my course.
After spending a few days around Sol doing some trading and just exploring the sorroundings i decided i needed my Viper there. So i bought a Sidewinder, upgraded the FSD a bit so i got at least 11 Ly range and hopped back to the LHS 3447 region. Sold the taxi, and also upgraded the Viper's FSD a bit and took her to Sol.

You just need to play with the Star Map a bit and plan your course so you can get closer and closer to Sol. And get a Fuel Scoop. There's a lot of empty star systems, Brown Dwarfs, White Dwarfs in between, and you better scoop some fuel when you have the chance or you might get stranded!
Oh and scan a few systems along the way, so you can get a few bucks while travelling! :D

You can get a class A FSD but something else to consider is that class D equipment tends to be much lighter. With that said you could lower everything to class D and then use your current or a class A FSD to get better range.

I had arrived at Sol yesterday for the first time, with a mostly default Cobra. I found the direction of Sol (un-plottable), then just found something in-between as others have mentioned. I stopped by Alpha Centauri, and to my surprise, discovered that it's a Binary Star System... Hadn't leart that preior.

From there, it's an easy jump o Sol.

By realizing how much I was spending on fuel costs, I decided to pick up a scoop. I found it's quite easy to do, and since you're pointed at a star each time you Shift to a new system, it only takes seconds out of the transit.
I had leart how quite easily, and found skimming an orange star can fill fuel reserves to full by watching heat/fill-rate, and pitching over the circumference at about .75c / 35/s fill-rate, the temp won't exceed 100%. Easy-
I don't know my fuel-scoop model, but I paid in the 25k range for it.

I'm glad I planned for fuel-scooping prior to my trip.
