General / Off-Topic Traveller RPG (and others)

While a youth, I used to play ALOT of roleplaying games. The tabletop kind, with pens and dice and not a computer in sight.
Many years ago, the hobby ebbed out for me and i havent played more then a few sessions the past 10 years. But the past 2 years ive been playing alot of boardgames though, with a bunch of friends who have never themselves played RPGs.

So naturally, ive convinced them that we should play some RPGs every now and then and they are eager to try whatever game I choose to gamemaster for them :)

So, returning to the hobby after 10 years.
I still have most of my old books, among them Call of Cthulhu, Fading Suns, Castle Falkenstein (probably one of my absolute favourite game), Space 1889 and lots of various supplements to them. Ive also bought myself some recent additions such as 5e D&D and Shadowrun.

I am a collector when it comes to this and while i havent PLAYED rpgs in years, every now and then I go to the local store and pickup a new book or two is anything catches my interest. I love reading them and thinking about stories and plots that would fit the various settings.

So, lacking a proper hard-ish scifi, its inevitable to not have Traveller showed in your face everytime this subject pops up.
Ive never played Traveller and even though ive had a good grasp of it as a whole, i never knew what little things that make Traveller be Traveller.

So I went online and ordered a copu of mongoose Traveller which, after some research, seems to be the most accessible of the various editions, even though its not the latest.
Ill have it sometime next week and until then, i have the PDF to enjoy.

Enough rambling, just wanted to know if there are any Traveller players here or general roleplayers, no matter what game!?
Whats YOUR favourite game?

My mate was really into it - he played Traveller at one point. Or was it MegaTraveller, can't remember (same thing?). We mostly got a group of us playing D&D though, maybe some of the really obscure ones as well - but almost always the fantasy genre.

Been a good 20 years since we quit that though. Took up Warhammer for a while mid-late 90's but since 2000 it's all been about PC gaming for us. Damn Intarwebz!

Edit - got some more names - HarnMaster and Rune Quest were another couple we played.

2ed. Which was a bit hard to wrap my brain around at first but still it's one of the best memories in that regard :) Ravenloft, Forgotten Realms and others. A lot of fantasy with 3,5 then D20 with huuuge amount of settings and conversions. Been heavy on sci-fi at the time. Never been much into GURPS, spent some time playing with Fallout PnP, 7th Sea. Nah, counting them all doesn't seems as a good idea :D Been playing and game mastering A LOT :) Not anymore. And yes I seen Traveller RPG, friend tried to convert me. Unsuccessfully.

I love the little minigame that is Character Creation in traveller!
And from what ive heard, it was even better in previous editions, apperently your character could actually die during creation without you even getting a chance to play it :)
