Commander's Log
I have been traveling towards the conjoined 'North America' and 'Pelican' nebulae for several days now and I have finally reached them. Sadly, they are not nearly as visually striking as the last stellar phenomenon I visited (the Dumbbell Nebula) but, as they are merely a waypoint on my larger journey, I am satisfied with what I have seen thus far.
First, a series of images recorded as I approached the pair, from 175 lightyears, 75 lightyears, and 25 lightyears from the leading edge:
Then, a picture I thought rather pretty. At the lower left, the Veil East Nebula can be seen. At right, the star catalogued as 'North America Sector JH-V C2-10'. In the center, the bulk of the North America nebula from above the galactic ecliptic looking nearly straight down along its length.
Lastly, a simple view of the brightest portion of the nebula. It may not seem like much but after a thousand lightyears of black space, the red glow was oddly comforting. Space can feel quite isolating, and this feeling of... I don't know, being in a more restricted space, appeased the natural loneliness of space travel.
I will close with one last interesting discovery, this one entirely generated by humankind. When I arrived in the area and began my survey, I naturally sought out several fuel-rich stars to plan my route around... this area being rather new, in stellar terms, such stars were rather uncommon. Finding a bright white star, I naturally tried to fix my navicom onto it and discovered it was locked out by the core system. I fought with it for a while, but all I was able to do was get it to report that the system was locked by the Pilot's Federation, requiring a specific permit to access. Perhaps if I had the infowar suite I used in my special forces days, I could have cracked it, but as I am rather dependent on a functional navicom to continue my trip and get home safely, I decided to put this mystery aside.
Commander Stella Roma signing off.
(( Has anyone happened to notice this particular permit in any faction's grantable permits list? I am intensely curious about what could be there that would make it locked, so far from civilization. ))
