Trespass Warning Timer - Too short for large ships

Hi All (especially any watch FD folks),

Is there any way we have get the Station trespass warning time limit raised (or scaled) for larger ships?

I've hit the thing (mostly through inattention or distraction) quite a few times. In all my previous ships I've been able to reverse out with a few seconds to spare.

Just did it again (and yes, lurking troll types, I know this is my fault) in my Type 7. I had no chance of getting back out before the station killed me off.

I did have plenty of cash for SHIP insurance, but what is a little harder to replace is all the time that went into collecting the 153 rares that were in my hold. They represented stops at over 25 systems and many, many, many jumps. The cargo insurance indicator is just salt in the wound at this point.

Again, just want more than 15 seconds to get back out of the station before death. Or maybe even the option of asking for docking permission during the count-down.

I've done this quite a few times now, you can get away with it IF you are straight and not hammering speed when you fly in, full reverse thrust should see you reverse back out the slot. I had to do this 3/4 times in a Type-9 a while back, scared the bejeezus out of me but always made it back out, just..... I don't think you will get much sympathy here and certainly no change to the game mechanic so just make sure you go in straight, once inside stations you rotate with them so in theory straight in, straight back out. :D You can boost for crazy approaches and landings all you want in little ships but once your in something bigger (and more expensive!) it really is worth taking your time.

When do you ask for clearance to dock? Right at or a little before the 7.5 km mark? If so, you might want to wait a bit until you're better lined up and sure you can get in in time. And yes, you do have to remember that you're driving a big rig now and not a compact sidewinder and take that into account.

I rather agree on this point. I would not mind a fine, I do not mind the timer...but getting killed when the clock runs out just as you're hitting the edge of it is rather harsh. Even in an eagle I have had a hard time getting back out, mainly because my reactions are drek and I was doing something else.

I think for me it is just...I forget sometimes. I get distracted and then wham...there it is impending doom. This could be fine tuned just a little as no one is perfect, but the game treats us all as if we are.

Today in an allied station whilst INSIDE the actual hanger (the correct one i'll add) I received either a pad loitering warning or a trespass warning which then became a fine which then ended up with the station firing at me whilst within the hanger (who knew there was lasers down there?).

I'm not into the log off thing to avoid actual "real" issues but I had permission to be there so logged off to stop it, when I logged back in I had a 400 cr fine but no reputation damage at all. It was completely nuts because I was in the outfitting screen when it started firing.

Its been ticketed.

As soon as you get the warning, save and exit. When you rejoin you'll be safely out of the way and able to dock and pay the fine. Sort of a cheat though, so it's up to your conscience.

I normally ask for clearance as soon as I jump in. With Stations it's usually around 9km out. Terminals are the only ones I've found enforcing the 7.5km range (and those aren't an issue for me in the T7).

I have always been able to back out in my other ships. Pretty sure it ended up being a rotational issue this time and since we can't see behind us, and I couldn't get turned around, I was doomed. Just a serious irritation. In the T7 I usually approach straight in with 4 pips in shields and 2 in engines. speed right about 100. 99.9/100 it works great. It's the .1 that killed me :(

Simple solution, dock slower. If you see the warning, don't turn, just throw your engines into reverse and back straight out.

I've lost count of the number of times I've done this in the T7 and T9 and never had a problem escaping by simple reversing.

Me too lol, I have to forgive my forgetful mind as its an age thing but I cant forgive my impatience. :D Especially now my rebuy cost is a whopping 12.5m before stock losses....

It happenned to me on my very first run with a 106T T6 full of palladium.
I promised myself "never again" .... until the next time ;)

I don't know, considering the 30sec timer is already a chance (not a guarantee) to make good on ones mistake, i couldn't ask for more.
In theory, that second chance might not even be there.
I made the mistake once in a type 7, hit x and managed to reverse out.
Admitted i enter the slot slowly, 60-70 m/s.

I know docking is relatively simple, but the surest way of saving yourself from forgetting to ask permission is to buy a Docking Computer.

You have to ask permission before the DC will work

The mechanic is "meh" if you ask me, just to add some artificial " oh manure" moments. What star port would allow a ship to enter its gate before turning hostile? If I'm hostile and pack a nuke I'd just blast through the slit and blow my load there in the middle of the .. station. Make a darn protection spherical space around the station with 2 layers. Enter first layer w/o permission get fined and warned, enter the second get some laser love. And here you have a logic mechanic not just an exploitation for slips of mind.

What do you think about idea: longer warning tresholds when you are friend or ally? It's strange to get "welcome respected ally" and "we kill you after 30 seconds" one minute later.

Actually this whole 'zero tolerant' world FD have created is just unrealistic. A station wouldn't murder someone for being in the wrong place, or forgetting the get the correct permit, or taking too long to do something. Your local traffic warden doesnt go round with a RPG blowing up the slightest parking infringement. This is the most immersion breaking part of the game for me.

Be brave. Raise the landing gear and hit the afterburner button. You got nothing to lose when you find yourself in such a situation.

It's what saved my Type 7 and a cargo hold full of palladium from my own stupidity.

@Shads
It's quite realistic actually. A pilot's reckless behavior endangers everyone in the docking area as well as station operation. Other ships and even personnel (seen the cars driving around?) are put at risk. Stations give us enough leeway already before they apply damage control to our behinds.

Made me chuckle + rep :D

Disagree.

By the time you have earned enough for a big ship you should be on the ball enough not to tresspass in the first place.

What annoys me most about this mechanism, besides that its overly harsh, is that it doesn't extend to Type-9's who're blocking the letterbox by being stuck to the grate before it. If you're gonna have stations shoot us for minor infractions, please clear those too...

I wouldn't mind to pretend that they are on a very tight security ROE. Would make sense but to allow me to enter then blow me up, that's just o\. I agree with you about the rest of the rules but I can live with them if it means players can't use exploits like blocking a landing pad by hovering over it or some other gimmick.
