Newcomer / Intro Trial Run: Eravate Watch Hours

Dear Newcomers in the Open,

I will be on watch in the Eravate area

tonight from 2000h to 2300h CET (1900-2200 in-game time), maybe longer.

While I am by no means an Elite combat pilot, I'd be happy to be of assistance if you are in need and will try to respond to any distress signals, questions or calls for help.

If any other experienced players want to join me, I'd be more than happy. Finding the right instance might be difficult pre-Wings, but friending helps a little.

RP Background:
Ever since the amount of grief dealt to aspiring Commanders in the Eravate region has come to my attention, I've been thinking about how the more or less experienced Commanders can help with the situation. While "get out of there ASAP" is still the most important advice that can be given to new members of the community, some may have difficulties getting their landing gear of the ground, or else may want to make the first steps of their careers in familiar territories. For those, volunteer members of the Pilot's Federation will patrol the Eravate region at times of their own liking, in the hope of deterring the less civilized members as well as reducing the threat by Nonpartisan Private Commanders.

RL Background:
Just giving a spontaneous idea a shot here, to see what happens. It's inspired by DayZ, where anti-PvP policies are not allowed and have to be enacted by player groups or clans. (I don't know if something similar has already come up, if yes, kindly tell me.) I thought it might be worth giving it a try, and while I know that everyone can go Solo or Mobius, Open is a huge part of the community, and new players might welcome a friendly face. Friendly empty cockpit. Whatever. If it works and other want to participate on an irregular basis, I'll set up a number of rules - no payment demands, no pirating by those asking for help, something like that.

And if anyone comes up with a nice name, speak up.

Nice! Was thinking of checking out Lave tonight - see what it's all about.
Sent you a request.

(you might want to edit that u/o in your name ;)

^ apparently (if the forum is to be believed), like Eravate, it's one of those systems where you get shot by dozens of griefers twice a minute.
thought I'll try it out, for a change.

No, the Eravate area is the only starter system (actually it is next door in LHS 3447, but thats just a horrible place) and is riddled with idiots who like to prey on new players
Lave area is riddled with idiots because it is a area of concentrated Rares. Everyone wanting to make that big step up past Cobra goes there to do Rares Runs and are easy pickings.
Sol is riddled with idiots for historical reasons

Operated round Eravate for weeks with no Problem, even Bounty Hunting did not get grief, Thought I would Bimble over to Lave with some Rares in my Pimped up Cobra, Got through by the skin of my teeth 27% hull left and a bunch of Rabid Griefers on my tail
so Beware, read some guy saying its better to trade rares on Solo,

I will try to pass through during that time. I will keep an eye out.

Be warned though. Various groups are already operating in the area.

I'm already doing something similar. I'll head home, pick up my fighter and head your way. My hours of service may be different though.

I'm busy with my alliance in other systems, and my playtime is different from the other kids :( (GMT +9).

However, it's Sunday and I only have some reading to do, so I'll shoot through for a while - there's nothing really to dying in this game in a small ship with no cargo space when you have the insurance, so if I get embroiled in any pew pew nastiness and lose, it's no big deal.

I wish my Asp was ready for that kind of trip. Sigh. Take care out there!

Everybody else, I'll be hovering around NAV soon.

Ahhh well I'm a noob on the true sense of the word. I searching for my first fortune so no doubt i'll pass by lave sooner or later. That learning curve is steep

Well, that was anticlimatic. Didn't see a single hostile soul. Nearly a dozen nice bounty hunters, though. I believe this idea needs some more work.

But it was a pleasure meeting all of you out there.

@cmdr lowest: Wings is definitely needed for this kind of thing - in-game communication with more than one player is fidgety business right now.
