Newcomer / Intro Trick to finding the landing port on 14 sided stations???

Make sure you have the station selected, then in the target view on the left hand side, you'll see the hologram of the station moving in realtime, with large arrowheads pointing to the side with the port.

Generally speaking, all ports are usually oriented towards the planet the station is orbiting

The entrance is always on the side that is rotating counter-clockwise.
Take a moment to align with the rotation, figure which is which, and off you go.

The arrow was added later in development, and I ignore it :)

The dock entrance is on a square face, with white lights at the four corners of that face. At the opposite end of the station, there's a square face with four red lights at the four corners.

Even if you're approaching from 'the side', you should still just be able to see red or white lights and head towards the white lights (or to the opposite end to the red lights, if you can't see the white). For me, this is the quickest method, as you don't need to wait to get within docking-clearance-range to find out which end is which.

Here you go :)

There is another trick, I think more helpful.
When approaching station in supercruise, do not simply fly directly to station. As entrance to station is positioned towards planet, approach station from that direction. Fly towards space between station and planet, then in right moment turn towards a station.
Doing this means you will always see station entrance. Also you will save lot of time needed to fly around a station.

This does have some merit. It doesn't always exactly face it, but you do end up closer.

Also, the back side of the station has red lights; the front side with the entrance has white lights.
And you can always head towards the NPC ships; they are always in front of the entrance.
