Kinectimals Tricks not working

I haven't played the game for a while and now my pet will not do any tricks that I tell it to or perform. I can do all other minigames and challenges just fine, but for some reason the cub just stares at me when I am trying to get it to do tricks wether via voice or movement. Does anyone know a way to fix this?

In the Glade there's a contest called 'Tricks in the Grass' play that and let me know what happens. You can access the contests by opening the map, selecting the Glade and then the contest you want to play.
