Tried playing on my flatscreen

after playing on my dk2 for the last month or so, I thought I would catch a season or 2 of breaking bad and grind some credits while i did that. Left the DK2 off and gave it a shot on the old flat screen. Well,... the game (for me) is pretty much unplayable on a flat screen after playing on the DK2. I don't think I'll be able to fly any flight game again without full immersion .... damn you oculus rift!

I've never played on any Oculus gear, but I have played on a 180 degree projector. I know stereoscopic would make a big difference, but is it really that much better?

Yes can't emphasise that enough, the DK2 is a complete game changer
The level of immersion and scale is breathtaking, if it was in an arcade back in the 80's you would just of kept feeding it your pocket money week after week

Interesting - I may have to give it a try. I was very interested in the idea until it got bought by Facebook which killed all interest for me. I may have to revisit this.

I hope you do Asp, I certainly wouldn't let a company like Facebook come between you and one of the best gaming experiences possible

Its not about stereoscopic. Its about the feeling of being there along with scale to everything. You are in your own spaceship.

PS. Its not the Oculus Gear. Thats a different product for Samsung Mobiles so don't rush out and buy one of those!

I think he meant he hasn't played on any Oculus hardware. Using 'gear' as a general term. like "ASUS gear" or "Thrustmaster gear"

As far as the facebook buyout, what made me really come to terms with it is that I realized that Oculus, as a hardware maker, would have been irrelevant within a few years of VR hitting the market. If the launch happens right, every hardware company is going to have their own VR headset, and there's going to be so much competition that Oculus wouldn't be able to keep up. Oculus knows this. What they're worried about is that initial launch. Getting VR right, from the start, so that mainstream adoption DOES happen, and then we'll live in a world with massive advancement in the technology much in the same way cell phones are jumping forward by leaps and bounds.

tl;dr: Oculus is just here to set the stage. If/when Facebook manages to 'ruin' oculus, it won't matter, because there will be so many other options available to the consumer. In the meantime, they're helping to make the initial launch as awesome as possible. So basically, it's a win.

After having a DK2 for many months and also many gameplay hours with it, I stopped, and later resumed on a new 55' 4K TV. (no head tracking) It took awhile to get used to fighting in combat like that, and my skill has definitely decreased from not always being able to interpred the sensors display 100% coorectly.

I havent sold or broken my DK2. So why I did it ? Not only because it's really pretty (downright unbelievable!). But also because now I'm used to VR and when I play it on a 4K resolution I can imagine what it would be like with the CV2 ...
And so I go and have another look at the VR news.

I second the OPs opinion.

I have been playing mostly using DK2, but when selecting a new target on the Galaxy Map I revert back to my monitor (it is just so much more convenient browsing the Galaxy Map on the monitor). Yesterday when I was nearing my current target system in my new exploration trip, I thought I'd explore the last couple of system using my monitor. Oh, what a bore.. Finally I reached my destination, and fired up the Galaxy Map to start hunting for the next interesting target. After I found one, I switched back to my DK2.

After a couple of jumps via the same old M-class Red Dwarf stars, I arrived at a super-bright blue giant star. I have been playing the game on OR DK2 for a month or so now, but arriving at that blindingly bright star, looking around at my beautifully blue-tinted cockpit, I said aloud "Oh, wow, how beautiful" without actually realizing I was speaking aloud! Luckily my Voice Attack did not recognize what I said. :)

That system even had about 10 small bright T Tauri stars, all of them with their own planets, and all orbiting the main giant star at less than 5000 ls away, so the whole system was a celebration of light. I spent a good 15 minutes just basking at the brightness before forcing myself to start surface scanning the planets.

I then switched back to my monitor to the take some videos for my exploration video diary, all the while thinking about how soon can I get back to DK2 to continue the experience.

So yeah, DK2 has pretty much spoiled me as well. :)
