Tried the Cobra... Back to my Viper!

I sold my Viper weeks ago, went for a Cobra.
The reason was mainly that I wanted to try Rail Guns and shield cells.
The Viper cannot handle too much because of its smaller Power Plant.

Rail Guns are fun, but it is not a good setup for all situations.
If you are fighting big ships you will enjoy sniper shots to their subsystems.
But if the next fight is against an eagle you will be a little annoyed.

Shield Cells? I find them unnecessary. So I won't miss them.
I hate trading so I don't need the cargo space.

So I am happy to go back to my Viper.
Everything A class except for Sensors and Life Support.
Fixed C2 Cannons and Fixed C1 Beams.
Chaff and KWS.

Oh yeah!, feels like home...

Yeah, I love my beams and 'nons on my Asp for swift and easy kills.
That said, I'm tempted to try sticking a coupole of railguns on there (replacing two of the cannons) for the quick and easy kills against more stationary foes.
Or maybe a Plasma Cannon...

I found that the Cobra actually is the superior combat ship when moving on from my Viper. Initially I kept it for bounty-hunting, but quickly found out that my Cobra can handle that even better, so I sold the Viper and stayed with the Cobra for a very long time.

But if the next fight is against an eagle you will be a little annoyed.
For ships smaller than a Viper you shouldn't need the rails. Your two beams/burst/pulse take them down quickly enough. Not worth it wasting your costly ammo on those.
Playing around with weapons setups on the Cobra is a challenge - but it lends itself more to a mixed gimballed/fixed approach (gimablled on the wings and fixed in the center) than the Viper where it's more of an either/or choice. All fixed cannons are fun but hard to get all on target. Gonna try that one on the Asp tonight. Should give inordinate crunch power for next to no energy usage :D

I stuck with a Viper for a long while and then moved up to a Cobra and I definitely prefer it as I have more options but that is just me I guess. The hardpoints do annoy me a bit but I have learned to compensate. My friend went right to the Cobra and traded down to a Viper and he won't hear a bad word said about it so it is definitely a preference thing in my mind.
