Trip to Beagle Point - crossing The Abyss - any advice....?

I'm at Jaques Station, soon to take a trip to Beagle Point.

I've done some reading in this thread and if I understand it correctly the tricky bit is crossing The Abyss.

My ship can jump just over 40ly, so I'm thinking of the SVENNA CROSSING, the SMUGGLERS ROUTE, or ROUTE 33.

I'd welcome advice on which route to choose (... or is there a better route..?)

I have plenty of jumponium materials and an SRV (.. and a mining laser, just in case! - Thanks, Cdrs Macedonia and Chiggy! :) )

Also, if necessary, I could do a bit of horsetrading with outfitting at Jaques to squeeze out an extra ly in jump range, but I'm not keen to do this; most of my modules are 'engineer-modded' and I'm reluctant to part with them, and Jaques station isn't all that well equipped anyway.

Advice from experienced explorers would be greatly appreciated.

Im atm currently en route to BP with 46ly Conda. Im heading to Svenno as i shouldnt have any probs there with my range. Still 13000ly to go to Svenno start point.
My fellow Cmdr in 33ly Cutter is going to try Svenno also, he has collected a LOT of mats to be able to cross Svenno with that range.

Edit: forgot advice, if you have some mats, i would suggest the Svenno Crossing, should be doable with 40ly range

Any of those routes are fine, or, just do what I did and roll your own as you go. You may hit a dead end or two, though, really, you learn to grasp distances by eye pretty quickly, and you only dead end yourself once or twice before you figure out how to make a good long range plan beyond the plotted routes.

Besides, it also means you'll tag a bunch of your own systems, and likely make interesting new finds. I found a route with a 37LY anaconda between Svenno's and Smuggler's fairly easily.

And seriously, finding your own way is part of the fun!

Thank you.

What do you mean most ships? I see there are farther points?

jpjeffrey are you going to take the connections out to Colonia first? The five planetary settlements I mean.

Well, if anything hasnt changed, the minimun jump range youll need to reach Beagle Point is 34Ly.
And yes, there is farther points but Beagle Point was founded by CMDR Erimus Kamzel back when there was no engineer modding and therefore its considered the furthest reachable system.
Nowadays yes you can go further, but not much, the distances between systems are way more than any ships jump range even with engineer modded FSD.

As long as you stick around the 0 of the Yaxis, then with 40+ Ly jump you can come at it direct from Jacques. The Abyss is a great big hole that even with my 50Ly running on fumes jump range, you still need huge amounts of premium boost to cross it. But from Jacques, a direct route should have you avoiding it anyway.
EDDiscovery is a 3rd party tool which has a 2D and 3D map showing all the systems that uses of the tool have jumped through, and it clear shows where the abyss is due to the absence of dots near Beagle Point.
Check out EDSM also, this will give you ideas.

Well, I'm heading that way (pretty much direct line from Colonia to BP) in my non-engineered Asp (33.39LY range).

I'm now 48KLY from Sol and plan to use Route 33.

Look me up in-game.

I just made the trip in a Cutter with a 33.24LY jump range (full fuel) - No jumponium required.

I followed route 33 and there was only one jump (next to the last jump to Beagle Point) that required a 33.4 LY jump. I opted to use jumponium instead of dumping fuel, just to give it a try for the first time.

I enjoyed the journey and am currently headed back to Jacque's to collect my Elite Exploration rank and have a new appreciation for the black and salute all of those who have what it takes to accomplish this achievement!

Don't worry you can still type in CEECKIA ZQ-L C24-0, it just takes you to the system now known as BP.

btw, just to clarify some of the earlier comments, BP was never the "furthest reachable system". But it was the furthest system that Erimus could get to in his famous voyage that took place two years ago. His adventure was the inspiration for many of us and BP became somewhere to visit and raise a glass to his achievement. But Erimus's ship wasn't optimised for ultimate range (back then the risks weren't known and, in particular, when he set out NPCS were a real threat to returning explorers). A short while later CMDR ATT got to a further system in a more stripped down Asp and then some of us extended it further using Anacondas. Jumponium saw us push the limit out further still and once modded FSDs were available it only took a few days for the absolute furthest system to be reached. It's not the distance between the stars that limits how far we can get but the total lack of stars further out! Indeed, the maximum jump required to reach the furthest system is only 82.68 LY which is easily achieved with many modded ships and jumponium.

Another thing to remember about Beagle Point and the associated territory is that it was picked as the furthest from human space.

There are other places that provide challenging locations, they are just not as far from the bubble as BP.

You can make it easily with your jump range OP.
I got there back in may in my asp with 32/35.
I had to low tank jump once or twice.
I had to backtrack once navigating the abyss.
with todays game.. you have no worries
