Engineers Trip to Maia

Hello have not had the chance to go out into the deep black or uncharted regions of space until now & find myself trying to navigate a course to Maia but I seem to be at a stand still in regards to jump range & or fuel capacity. My current ship is a Federal Dropship & has about 12 to 13 ly jump range is this possible with a ship with that jump range or do I need a bigger ship ? Also forgot to mention all my modules are class A out. I have tried using Inara & manually plotting course but no stations found or insufficient data on systems in that region of space. I am currently located in HIP 18843. Thanks for any info in regards to my query.

Take a bunch of fuel tanks as well, stops you getting into too much trouble.
Depending on where you coming from there are some pretty big areas of Stars you can't scoop.

Yeah I hit a patch of brown dwarfs while flying out to Maia the other day - you just need to keep track, if you hit 2 or 3 in a row, stop and manually plot a route to a scoopable star. Or keep the fuel rat's number handy!

Well if he wants to upgrade Thrusters at Palin this would not be an option would it?
You can own more than one ship you know!

Buy a Diamond Back Scout craft with a 5c or greater drive and scan the edge of the occupied systems for the closest to Maia, you can then straight jump all the way there with fuel to spare.

Frankly though be prepared for disappointment, finding meta alloys is a massive chore that I gave up on myself. I think you need to group up to stand a chance of finding them within 4 years. Frankly it's a pointless waste of my time, but I am sure some people love endlessly skimming craters looking for the holy grail. Each to their own. It's just not for me. It discriminates against solo only players, which I am not per se, it hence is one of those annoying hoop jumping exercises for some. And if it is meant to encourage you to group well even then you are going to I suspect spend hours and hours running over the surface of what is a very large piece of rock. Just go and get the other Engineer stuff done is my advice, almost all of them are much, much easier. ;)

If you do find them though let me know. I could use a heads up lol.

---------------------------------

Someone just told me in Maia the barnacles have stopped spawning meta alloys, not sure if he meant as in a bug, or just in general, which probably wont help much either. On the other hand he could of meant there's a way of finding them he assumed I knew, and that me spending hours looking for them meant they had stop spawning. I never asked. sigh* such is ED.

A good rule to memorize scoopable stars by class is KGBFOAM.
Never failed me, easy to remember.

There's a filter for star types in your nav map. The top 7 are KGBFOAM. Switch all the others off when you're travelling. That way, every time you look at your route on the nav panel, you can see where the scoopable stars are. If there's none on the legs where you have fuel to reach, it's easy to select one that is scoopable because all the ones on the map are KGBFOAM.

And this is the other reason I spent my first G5 Increase FSD range on my Fer-de-Lance. Will make that trip to visit Palin for thruster upgrades much less painful when I can jump 18+ ly in my full-combat-kit FdL.

G5 Increase FSD Range is a royal pain to get because of the Polonium, but it is a really great mod to have on a combat ship. It makes long trips like the one to Maia far more practical.

Do you remember the flight path or rough direction & did you have a fuel scoop ?
Thanks for any info.

Shadowma

You absolutely need a fuel scoop. Just plot the route in the galaxy map. When the line goes dotted that is where you will run out of fuel without scooping first.

Here are some examples of exploration loadouts for the Federal Dropship...
Example:
...that build (on 2 different websites) have the Fuel Scoop (required) & 1 - extra Fuel Tank as well as 1 - AFMU (both recommended for exploration)
...I added some defenses / weapons but you could always strip those off
...load up what you want, but a Fuel Scoop is need for exploration, and extra fuel tank comes in handy, as well as having a AFMU to repair any modules that may get damaged in your exploration trip.

The shipyard website has a built in "Starmap" that you can click & then plot your route by entering your Origin & Destination (which is handy):
There is also a Route Planner that you could use to plot out your trip by entering you Origin & Destination in it as well:

Using the information you provided & the Federal Dropship build I posted above I was able to get the following plot from HIP 18843 to Maia...using the www.edshipyard.com website:

Shadowma: of course I had a huge fuelscoop. But I just flew directly to Maia. I wasn´t forced to detour because of fuel. As I said: it was a pleasure. [up]

where is this filter please, can't seem to find it.

They should scrap the whole idea it's boring pointless and anyone who says otherwise is lying. At least with the other Engineers you get to do something fun.

Maybe make someone travel to somewhere they have a snowballs chance in hell of achieving sometime this year even if they are a solo only player.

It's rubbish lets face it, and it's not just rubbish even if you have to make two jumps in your super duper space craft from Earth, that's not the point, you would rather not because when you are there, no way you are going to be going home within a year or two.

/never going to do it ever, even if I group with 500 people all dedicated to the task, once bitten frankly. A barrage of mundane only someone with way too much time on their hands would like and who probably works for FD so they can look at the code and fenagle it so they find it straight way.

go there yourself would be another example of 3 words, and stop wasting 500000 pilots time when you already have 500000 tonnes of it. 500000 lots of money makes sense as does 500000 lots of bounty vouchers.

Not that it matters of course, crappy engineer stuff is hardly important to me, there are after all plenty of better people who care about your space craft in the galaxy and about making your efforts mean you did something that made a difference somewhere. If I could sum it up in three words. Waste of anyone with any senses time. In the Kuzduk language that is 3 words. ;)
