If your goal is getting triple Elite doesn't it make sense to start with exploration. I'm assuming once scanned a system cant be rescanned by another player? All the "low hanging fruit" as it were, are now being picked off. Does this mean those focusing on trade and combat will have to go further to find unexplored systems?

As far as I know scannin is personal, ie I can scan what has already been scanned by you

And it probably wouldn't matter anyway. It doesn't take many jumps and you'll be out where nobody has been before. Pick a random direction, go 1000Ly, and chances are nobody would have visited most of the systems you see ever.
Since there are many many stars out there it can be assumed, that you'll always in 2015 find some that never were scanned by another player.
Currently trading is fastest. So if you you expect that trading will be nerfed or exploration will be made made more profitable it makes sense to start with trading.
If the threads claiming bounty hunting was nerfed are right, it made sense to have already started with combat.
If we would know how markets behave in future.... stop.

If you want to go triple Elite you go Trader first, because then you got the money to do all the rest.
