Tritium Refinery Module

A Tritium refinery module for Fleet Carriers.
The module can only be activated from the FC management console if the FC is parked at a planet that has Tritium hotspots.

The module “sends drones” (read: automatically) harvests Tritium from the Tritium hotspots and refines the Tritium directly into fuel for the FC. Once the FC’s tank is full the module stops working.

The module only operates when the player is online (due to Elite not really having a central server to control these things.) The module harvests about 200t of Tritium per half-an-hour (my plucked from the air figure.)

The module also takes up space in the FC and adds to the FC’s mass just like other modules do and therefore impacts on the fuel consumption and maintenance bill of the FC.

This allows players to just park their FCs and then go about doing other things

[Edit]
This is an optional module, that adds on to the current way of refueling FCs. It does not replace the current method.

It would be fun if allowed to park FC at resource sites to use this module making FC potentially vulnerable (no no-fire zone and system security ships) for re-routing or other type of "damage" (e.g. stealing cargo from commodities market). But of course FDev will never do this...

Just mine it yourself or pay others to.

Pretty sure you can buy enough in the bubble to make it all the way to Colonia more than comfortably now.

I would love to be able to send NPC Crew go mine Tritium for role play.

It's not like it's giving any advantages, compared to just buy it at Fleet Carrier/Megaships relay.

So people usually mine about 200-300t per hour, and you want the tritium god to gift you 400 tons per hour while you have a sip at the bar?
😂

Eventually, if you put a fighter module, you can have your carrier's NPC pilots get you bounties from the nearby Haz Res while the mining module fills your cargo hold with tritium
Then, what's next? A trading module to automate the buy and sell?

And here we are... we're not playing Elite Dangerous anymore, but something that resembles... umm... Planet Elite, maybe? 😂
Obviously, after Planet Coaster and Planet Zoo, we do need a Planet Elite

Topped mine up last week, 8k tons at 53k a ton, took a few trips in my T9 barge, a couple of pirates tried to attack me but the trip between the FC and station was so short they kept popping out of SC when I was already in the no fire zone, of course one did get a bit scraped when he appeared directly in front of me. I really don't know why anyone would mine for a short trip to Colonia when it's available just about everywhere in the bubble.

only reason we do is we take out time. Just something to break up the exploration loop. But yeah that was my point you already don't need to mine it yourself unless you want to.

What a great idea? ;)
A bar at the carrier, a fighter module and by the grace of the trade gods, a automated trader module.
By your logic though. We should increase the price of refueling ships at stations by a factor of 10000, decrease the the amount of fuel a fuel scoop can gather at a star by a factor of 10 and double the amount of fuel needed by ships to jump. This would ensure that players learn how to fuel scoop at stars, read the galaxy map so as not to get stranded even in the bubble and learn to evade interdiction (or have to fight) while refueling. I.e. As you said, “learn to play the game.” :)

Honestly I don't see anything wrong in this scenario - the FC put into HazRes should be great attraction for pirates and it can be easily balanced by introducing some sort of pirate swarm attacks. Exactly the same as when one flies to HazRes for bounties they should expect some sort of danger, so that pirates eventually should be able to push the player out of POI - their level and amounts should increase over time. So the game should not allow AFK builds and therefore putting unprotected FC in resource site should naturally lead it to be robbed and pushed out of POI/system.

I dont see anything wrong for them to develop a Planet Elite game.
There would certainly be a player base for it

For example i enjoyed Mech Commander waaaay more than any of the Mechwarrior games.

If it's only going into the tank, and at a substantially slower rate, like 1t/minute (passive/offline too),
I'd welcome this, especially if it would add gameplay like the ability to hatch break the module to steal some of that Tritium for myself.

A fully laden carrier only uses 125t for each jump, at 20 minutes per jump. So a carrier with this module would always have full fuel reserves. Even if it took up 10kT of space it'd probably still be more useful than the same mass of stored fuel for any long-range carrier trip (and for short trips fuel's not an issue anyway)

Might as well just ask for Tritium to be removed at that point - that'd be much simpler.

Only if it keeps jumping into planets with ice rings that have a Tritium hotspot. Not every system that you jump into has those.
Yes it is probably more useful than buying 10kT of Tritium and storing it in your hold and then having to transfer it to your carrier’s fuel tank everytime you want to top up the fuel. But that’s the point.
Just like the Advanced Auto-Dock and the Auto-Cruise modules you don’t have to get it (I don’t use them cause as some poster pointed out that using them is too much like their favorite Planet Coaster, yet I don’t see forum posts with players up in arms against them.)

What would be fun if the cmdr of the FC can have a crewmember wingmate fly an extra miner.
Or can have him as an escort to protect against pirate attacks.
Or the other way around, can escort a mining ship.

IMO mining trit is a great diversion from exploring and jumping around.
