It has come to my attention that there are an overwhelming amount of Trolls on these forums.

These people fascinate me. So i did a little digging and found this great video. Skipp to 2:45 if you dont like intros. I like intros!!!

Basically it goes into an in depth study of trolls! Finally we can understand!!!!

Toll are an expansion coming to ED soon. They are made of rock, look like mountains and can take our most ships with one blow. Soon to be an explorers nightmare.

As to those people who lurk behind their screens, looking for way to upset others. They are just sad individuals, without friends. Who before the inter-web, made nuisance and abusive phone calls and before the telephone invention; probably aspired to become Tax inspectors.

That's what the ignore list is for :D

116 at current count. I started from about 3 on the list about a month ago with a new set of rules since I felt like I was wasting my time-off work on something that was starting to feel like a chore:
1) Anyone that posts clickbait titles with no content gets added.
2) Anyone posting an "I'm leaving" gets added.
*3) Anyone that has more than 4 swear filters in one post gets added.
*4) Anyone using the words carebear, fanboy or similar words gets added. <- Personal hate
5) Anyone that I genuinely don't want to waste my time on gets added.

#5 is usually something pretty serious but I've been a bit overkill with a few and over-turned my decision following further posts I took the time to read.

Has made it a fair bit more pleasant in my experience.

Ironically for this thread and indeed reply you were on my list: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...-genre/page2?p=4210432&viewfull=1#post4210432
Didn't necessarily disagree with you but the extent at which both of you were willing to take that arguement for presumably "internet points" made me want to walk in the other direction with my headphones in :p
I'm always one to admit I'm often wrong so congratulations for getting off the list and hopefully I won't regret it. :)

^ Hopefully this comes across as I intended and offence isn't taken. If it is just message saying please delete and I'll edit this post into oblivion.

*added in edit (I forgot about those) :)

I keep thinking about adding people to my ignore list. I believe that I have one, in it so far, but I do like to give everyone a second, possibly, a third chance.

I didn't know, that I could reverse this process and knowing that I can, would make it easier to 'delete' some, I would find, irritating.

Top right - Settings.

Bottom left under subheading "My account" -> Edit Ignore list

Alternatively under thread titles say in Dangerous discussion the OP is listed. As my case here the post will be invisible if the OP is ignored but going to their profile by clicking their name will allow you to go to the left panel and un-ignore them. :D

Thanks. :D

The problem with ignore lists (as I have seen repeatedly over many MMOs) is when you ignore someone you now only see half the stupid argument which is almost worse than seeing the whole thing. I would have to ignore everyone who responds or argues with one and that is just silly cuz there would be about 5 of us left. :)

lol no i love i was on the list!!

the system works!!!

Slightly off topic but something that really grinds my gears and would be part of the rules:

(6) People making "open letter" threads

--

Back to the OP.

Maybe I am a little naive but I honestly don't know anyone on this forum who, according to the video, fits the definition of a troll, being: "a person who is mean for the sake of getting a reaction"

I know plenty of people who:

- Are very passionate about what they believe
- have varying and widely different views than others (not mainstream)
- Willing to defend their ideals and beliefs
- Are curt in their responses

<shrug> As Alex pointed out that's what the ignore button is for.

Mine is currently empty though .. people go there, sometimes only for a few hours, normally whilst I cool down  :D :)

This board, yesterday.

I only had one fella on my ignore list he had well thought out views and I disgreed with him on a few things, but agreed on more. But his gimmick was always writing in pirate-patois and I got bored of running it through internal translation.

It's easier to just skip threads with dodgy titles than ignore I find.

Anyone left LMAO :D

Anyone left LMAO :D

Yeah, I actually surprised myself counting today but I can perfectly honestly say I've enjoyed my time on the forums more since I started this self-imposed policy.

Part of me thinks this is really closed minded and I should listen to everyone as even the most unbearable poster has a point buried somewhere. The other part of me says I'm paid to put up with stupidity most of my working week I shouldn't do it for free the rest of the time...that thought pretty much sealed the deal. :p

And yeah it has got a bit quieter.

Edit: Oh we got a move into off topic. I was wondering when a moderator would show up.... Hiiii :D

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Eh, Trolls aren't necessarily the ones who irritate me the most. It's the Haters.

'Haters gonna hate', as they say. Yet, I can't fathom how some people get so wrapped up in internet drama and tribalism that they lose all common decency. Some people really have axes to grind. It's the ultimate First World Problem - fighting online about video games.

My pet hate on the forums are so-called 'polls' with wording so obviously biased as to make them worthless. Some are clearly just trolling, but others appear to be sincere - their creators don't seem to realise that rigged polls achieve nothing, since nobody is going to take the results seriously. Personally, I think that the forum rules should be amended so moderators can preemptively close 'polls' which make no attempt at neutrality - if people can't be bothered to figure out how to ask a question without insulting anyone who disagrees with them, I see no reason why they should be allowed to waste people's time with such nonsense.

I agree with both of you!

I've got no time for those who obviously resent the game or a section of the player-base and only post to snipe at them.
But I don't ignore people for just having a different opinion on a subject. Sometimes my own opinion has changed from reading a well written post that got me questioning myself - that is one of the best things about healthy debate :)

As for polls on this forum, I see them as purely for fun. But some people take them seriously as some sort of barometer of player opinion and believe that the canvasing of a very narrow slice of the player base is enough to demand Frontier make changes.

I think a useful feature would be the ability to ignore entire threads. Just a checkbox will do. You know sometimes just by looking at the title it's going to be a sorry train-wreck of a thread!
