Tropical, not Rainforest? A request for clarification.

Hello everyone...
I see there's a lot of conflict and confusion over our newest DLC... but before we all loose our minds, I'd like to point this out.

Based on what I'm seeing, our new DLC is based on the Tropical Zone... not Rainforests. That said, I'd really like a confirmation from an official source, so... can anyone out there provide an answer?

So by that logic Oceania and south america got shafted. Of they swapped out the RRH for coati and water monitor for crocodile monitor it wouldve been perfect.
(Sigh) ...not the point I'm trying to make... assuming you'd even call this a point. Everyone freaking out about this being the Rainforest pack need to chill, because this isn't a Rainforest pack...

Yeah but that dosent negate the fact that the Amazon takes up a large area of the tropic zone.

I don't have an answer but fully agree that tropical does not equal rainforests. Rainforests are super diverse with many different types that aren't tropical ?temperate, sclerophyll, dry, ect) and I could see it being a pack in it's own right.

Aren't rainforests in the game literally being referred to as "Tropical biome"? I get the point that not every rainforest ist tropical, but it don't really think that Frontier thinks like this. I have very little expectations to see a rainforest pack in the future, but I can definitley see a woodlands pack.

The dumbest argument I've seen so far is that tropical and Rainforest are too similar and Frontier wouldn't work with a redundant theme... as if the aquatic pack and the Wetlands pack don't exist.

Yeah i think will get a complementary animal pack for this, just like what happened with aquatic and wetlands or Australia/Africa and grasslands. And this Tropical pack is complementary to SEA animal pack.

This is a point I brought up earlier, though I will be honest I'm not expecting Frontier to draw much distinction between the two. Three of the five new animals' habitats are primarily tropical rainforest, and the Asian water monitor and fossa both inhabit tropical rainforests within their range.

So I actually would not consider this a tropical rainforest-themed dlc, but it is possible that Frontier do. I would definitely welcome any clarification, if a CM is able to lean in!

Yes, I agree. A "Forest Animals" pack would be a nice way of navigating that. Such a theme just means any animals living in a "forest" would qualify, which would be a huge number of animals. Definitely would not count that out.

I made the same suggestion in the summer dlc pack but a general forest animal pack would be a really nice way to tie in Tassie devils, coati, ocelot, new world monkies, SA animals, and the tree kangaroo, with birds

Out of interest, what would actually be non-tropical rainforest species? Probably Tasmanian devil and North Island brown kiwi could be possible, maybe also American black bear and Southern pudu.

I've just seen that woodlands tend to be more open forests, so yeah, a forest animal pack would probably be better.

That's not really the point, it's that the Tropical Zone and a Rainforest two different things... that said, a quick google search provides stuff like this. In any case, a genuine Rainforest pack would no doubt contain elements of both tropical and temperate rainforests.

This is such a bizarre thing to fixate on to me. All 5 of the included species are tropical rainforest species. Just because the selection criteria was presumably species found in tropical regions, this does not negate the fact that they are still all rainforest species and people are largely going to pick up on this fact. So even if this isn’t literally The Rainforest Pack, it still works out so that it’s very much a rainforest pack - and Frontier obviously knew that too, let’s not act like they didn’t. And let’s also not ignore the fact that the game itself treats rainforests as being mutually exclusive with tropical regions - the average person also no doubt have 0 concept of rainforests that aren’t tropical. Trying to market non-tropical rainforests just isn’t good business sense.

Now personally, I expect us to most likely be getting exactly three more DLC packs before support ends. So with that in mind, I can say with near confidence that there is 0 chance we see such a wholly redundantly themed pack as a Rainforests (Animal) Pack during this year.

But I still think this is a really silly thing to get hung up on either way.
