Took on a couple of missions to kill,members of a specific faction, I went to the only controlled settlement they had. Only to find the settlement was occupied by a different faction. It appeared to have been raided as the power was off and there were dead people on the ground. How do I find the faction now as there aren’t any mission markers in the system or other controlled settlements?

These missions aren't playing nice. They seem to be generating when that faction's state in the system is negative (meaning they cannot ever have active settlements).
Basically, bugged. So avoid for now. Better to aim for the scav kill missions, or massacres where a specific settlement is targeted.

Can you post a screen of your mission?
It's worth noting that there's two kinds of missions, one works and another doesn't.
The one that works is "go to this settlement and kill its occupants"... that basically sends you off to clear a settlement and works just fine.
But the "raid" ones seem bugged, where kills aren't tied to a particular base.

For the raid one, I was able to kill the target faction at threat leveled POIs (because I didn't feel like raiding a settlement).
The reliability of this workaround, however, is questionable.
Here you go. The mission is failed now so I cannot find the details. The Ross 370 Crimson Gang only control the Korolenko Nutrition Biosphere.
