Trouble growing a wolf pack?

I don't know if it's just me, but I've had trouble growing a timber wolf pack naturally (mating pair, and only their children). I only seem to get 1 pup 90% of the time, and the parents always seem to die of old age before they breed again. It's possible, but takes several generations and prayers for more than a single pup.

I haven't had it as bad with arctic wolves, which have 2 pups more often and usually breed twice before dying. AWDs I don't have problems with at all, since I can get an almost full pack in the 2nd generation.

Ye, when trying to breed lots of puppys, the fertility gene is very important. If the female only have like 17-33%, then they will only have one pup, but if it's higher, pref. close to 100% the chance of getting more puppys gets much higher :)

I need to check my franchise zoo again to be 100% sure, but I think all 3 species have mid-range fertility (approx 50%). Does fertility also affect how often they breed? I find it weird that my arctic wolves breed more than once, but my timber wolves don't, unless it was a really weird design choice between species. I had a timber wolf breed again once, but she was extremely elderly and proceeded to die about a few months after having the puppy.

I think that the males fertility determines how often they breed and the females determine how many babys they get
