Trouble interpreting Codex

Is there an issue with the Codex or am I doing something wrong?

I want to see some of the cool space creatures found by others, so I looked up Discoveries... Bio & Geo... Organic...Gourd Molluscs in the Codex. It tells me that there are Croceum Gourd Molluscs reported in COL 285 SECTOR GG-N C7-34, so I've headed there. But I find nothing out of the ordinary in that system.

What did you do to find them in that system?

Edit: heh - seems I saw them there a while back :)

I FSSed every body, mapped the two water worlds, looked for any special signal sources and dropped into every belt cluster. I can't really think of anything else to do.

Hmm, guess they moved then - bad fdev :( I've seen reports of things moving around, I kinda assumed that they wouldn't do that to things in the codex, as it renders it a bit pointless

The Codex suggests they would be in a ring or a belt cluster; there are no ringed planets in the system which is why I visited the clusters. There are certainly no "notable stellar phenomena".

I have come to the conclusion (months ago) that "The Codex is a Lie". I don't trust much of anything in it.

Oh no, I would say it's spot on, all my first discoveries are still there! :)

Personally I would find it strange, specially for space borne artifacts and bio, that it stays in the same place all the time. Saying "this is where CMDR XXX found it" shouldn't necessarily mean, "this is where it will be for all time." For geo features yes I would expect long lifetimes, for bio I wouldn't necessarily, maybe some naughty CMDR went out there the harvested all of it and it's now extinct in that system (yes I know, does our supposedly dynamic galaxy work like that at all).

Having said that, yes it's probably a bug because I don't expect our virtual galaxy does work like that, we had geo features vanish after an update or two a while, so maybe it was the September update that did this feature in.

I wonder if the issue is partly relative positions of bodies?

The ones in the Colonia region do appear and disappear from time to time.

Lagrange points should be relatively stable regardless of orbital position, though...

Just been out there and they have indeed vanished. Probably worth an issue report if you can be bothered.
Well this is weird. Luckily I looked around the system once more before jumping out, because tonight there are two notable stellar phenomena sources. I've found the molluscs. I'm absolutely positive they weren't here yesterday. I'm grateful that you went and looked too, otherwise I'd be doubting my sanity right now.

I'm leaving the issue report as there's obviously an intermittent bug.

Maybe they do their migration to the galactic centre and back in only 24 hours? :)

<EDIT> I logged in again tonight and they're gone again. I relogged several times to make sure that didn't make a difference.

I use the Codex strictly to track my own discoveries in each region. So far, the issue of discoveries I make not registering has not occurred, but I am aware of it. It's my understanding that if I want to find things discovered by others to go see, there are a number of better 3rd party resources available.

I have visited a few systems for “things” via the Codex and found nothing also.
I’m thinking that maybe new updates interfere with galactic persistence. A bit like when HazRes sites have switched around on occasion.

Hi Flimley, I have also visited a few sites where bio was listed in the codex, out in The Abyss, and so far they have all been where I expected them. Is it the space borne stuff that you have been missing? Lagrange clouds etc rather than stuff like Anemones on planets.

Hello varonica. From memory..(this will be bad) Tonight I was searching for a P-Type anomaly, described as a gas cloud with an illuminated source, often found around ammonia worlds. Will have to go back into the game to find the system name for that one. But the system did have twin ammonia worlds.
Also have been to the system in the OP, twice, found nothing there. And the system Aulis ? Where where I think was meant to be a Q type “something”.
Happy to check i n game tomorrow.
Codex searches have been successful on planets. But, yes it’s the space Codex entries that have been missing.

They certainly appear and disappear from time to time in the colonia regions.Iv'e seen as many as 17 separate instances in Colonia system itself. But in some of the systems they are not always present.I have the feeling it is working as intended, but if so it makes things fiendishly difficult. Anomalies disappear too, although i have bumped into the same one twice.
