Trouble with FacetrackNoIR

I searched the forums but couldn't find anything about my predicament so here goes.. Got myself a webcam (Logitech C270) and got everything set up and working, except I can't get my in-game head stay still. Even when I'm not moving the view keeps swaying left-right, up-down and everything in between. Makes me feel like one of them bobble head figures :D If I turn my head to take a look at the side panels the view kinda like "bounces" back making the panels open and close. And sometimes when I'm facing dead straight to the camera/monitor my view is pointing to the upper left corner. I've tried placing the camera below and on top of the monitor but it makes no difference. Lighting should also be sufficient. Depending on what is sufficient with FacetracknoIR, of course.

My Facetrack settings are by a guy who made a tutorial on YouTube how to get FTNOIR work in ED and they worked just fine with him. So I'd guess the problem lies within the camera and/or camera settings. Are there maybe some general rules of thumb how the camera settings should be what comes to exposure, gain and the likes? I've gone through every imaginable combination with the sliders but nothing seems to do the trick. I feel like curling up on the floor and cry.

But yeah, any and all help would be much appreciated!

Try amending the curves so they start out flat for a section before they climb. I had similar issues with OpenTrack, setting a deadzone meant it didn't react to every muscle movement.

Also, I need daylight for my camera to properly pick up my face, even with the lights on full in the evening its too dark for my setup.

If your feeling creative, check out edtracker.org.uk, make your own accelerometer head tracker for about £20

Yeah, it does tend to be a little spazzy - if you set a nice curve so that it responds a lot less to input in the middle of your view, you'll be much better off. I've been using it to great effect, actually - just have to mess around with it until it feel acceptable. ^^

Also check in the WebCam settings that it is not set to auto follow or auto track. The auto settings try and center your face every now and then causing tracknoir to think you have moved.
The auto setting on mine also thinks the vase behind me is a face.

I have TrackIR, not sure what headtrack is. Have you pressed F12 to reset head track?

Cheers! Looks like I need to fiddle with the curves some more. I was a bit worried that it might require actual daylight to pick up the face properly. Or maybe I'm just too ugly

@Dommarraa: Yea, I turned all the auto-settings off. It was an utter mess while they were on.

@SlickReed: FacetracknoIR is kind of like TrackIR but it uses a webcam to track your head movement. A poor man's TrackIR, if you like :D

Here are my curves. Notice the mini deadzone on the bottom right of each panel.

It's not really a "dead zone" rather a mild gradient before the main curve.

I need to try those and see if my head settles down.

BTW, what's the difference between those two tabs? I tried tweaking the 'translations' curves but didn't notice anything.

Oh the translations are for when you move your head torward/away and to the left and right of your screen while looking forward. It's for when I play DCS: A10 Warthog. It's not implimented in Elite ... yet (I hope).

They do sell ready made modules on the site but they are more expensive than sourcing the bits yourself. Still cheaper than a TrackIR though
Ah, so it seems. I may have to investigate further.

That explains.

So I tinkered with Kandarus' settings, unfortunately they didn't help either.

I recorded a short clip and this is pretty much as good as it gets. While capturing the video it was bright outside, sun shining in, window is almost directly behind my monitor. Also, my (real life) head is completely still here. I didn't even breath during those 24 seconds, lol. Moving my head makes it worse.

Oh well, guess this doesn't really matter anymore. I went ahead and ordered TrackIR
