Troubles to locate the Unknown Probe

I found out something big was discovered but as with all the alien stuff I've tried to only seek out how to access it to get my own first look of it in-game.

The latest one requires the Unknown Artifact and Unknown Probe. I got the Unknown Artifact but unable to get a hold of the probe.

I have been circling the ammonia planet in PLEIADES SECTOR KC-U B3-1 8 since yesterday and I have only found shipwrecks and no probes during the approximately 4 hours of search.

Have they removed the probe from this location or is there a distance to planet requirement for it to spawn? Or am I just very unlucky?

Sounds like you have been very unlucky with that one. In my experience, you can get one in 0.5-1 hours (which I think is still too long). I got one at Pleiades Sector RO-Q b5-0 7 today, so that definitely works.

At least your not alone MJ, tried to find one very hard today too. No luck so far.
Thanks to marx for the tip, going to try that system next. Cheers!

After 4 long boring hours looking around a Pleiades Ammonia World for an unknown probe, I finally found DEGRADED EMISSIONS: THREAT LEVEL 2.

That's it, I thought! An unknown probe! Finally!

And that was the moment my finger accidentally nicked the "drop out of supercruise" key.

When I was too far from the signal source... travelling slowly enough to DROP OUT OF SUPERCRUISE into the middle of nowhere.

AAARGH. lol

Okay, here's the interesting thing: I had done a particular set of actions right before finding that probe USS... so I repeated them all... and within a minute of flying in supercruise, found another unknown probe!

Here's what I did...

1. Flew about 0.11 ls away from the Ammonia World in question (Pleiades Sector IX-S B4-0).
2. Exited the entire game client (ie. shut down).
3. Loaded up, selected Open Play.
4. Low-waked up into Supercruise.
5. Flew around at slow to moderate speed for less than a minute, and got "Discovered signal source"... and it was indeed an Unknown Probe.

So if you're going totally mad, thinking the game is broken, as it's not giving you any probe goodness, well, perhaps it IS broken. Perhaps the probe is meant to appear after a short time around that world, but doesn't... but it's not broken when you first start up the game and log in.

Give it a try, I say.

Thanks for the comments, I just found my probe. Reading the comments I can guess I was a little bit too close before, as I moved to 0.19ls distance I found one within 30 minutes. So it seems there is a distance to planet requirement for it to spawn, or I have just been very unlucky when being beneath the ls mark.

Anyway, PLEIADES SECTOR KC-U B3-1 planet 8 is still confirmed to still spawn Unknown Probes if anyone is uncertain.

Good luck to people still trying to find one!

How far away from the planet were you and how fast were you going can you remember ?
I have spent about two hours and counting searching for a UP .

Never mind found one while 0.20ls from the planet and not moving.

This is an example of one of the biggest problems with this game. Flying around a planet for HOURS doing absolutely nothing but waiting for a USS to show up so you can get an item that lets you watch some pretty lights float around an alien chamber for a few seconds. As cool as that is to see, that is not gameplay. I'm tired of all-flash no-substance nonsense. I'm tired of half-baked poorly though out new features that never get fleshed out. I think I'm done. After 2+ years of waiting patiently, hoping for the best, supporting them by buying the game on PC, Xbox, and numerous paintjobs and ship kits to support them financially, I think I might actually be done. I fully expect 2.4 to come and all we can do is shoot at thargoids. I think that will be the extent of the "gameplay". I hope I'm wrong, but I'm not holding my breath.

"Hey! I'll look and look for an Unknown Probe! Here we go at KC-U B3-1 8!"

1 hour later

"KC-U B3-1 8.....please??!? Where ma probe!"

Dont worry just keep on looking, after 2 hours cirkeling an ammonia world I finally got one!! Strange is it appears in your inventary as "stolen" .... Stolen from who,the Thargoids? I have to face a Thargoid judge now? Judge Judy? ;)

Follow these rules for PLEIADES SECTOR KC-U B3-1 8 and you will get an UP sooner or later.

1 Make sure you honk when arriving in the system
2 travel at a distance of 13.5 Mm and a speed between 230km/s and max 300km/s. Do not drop below 200km/s!!!
3 Spwan rate approximately one every three minutes. But could be other degraded emissions as well.
4 if nothing shows up for a while, jump out of the system and return. Dont forget to honk again.

Good luck Cmdrs! o7

Thanks dape. I'll give this a go later today. I've been trying for a few hours every day so far this week (after telling myself I'd only try the once......) using all the suggestions posted on the forums but with no luck at all.

wait until the probe falls out of your cargo bay in SC because you dont have a corrosive rack because marco polo is ridiculous

Fun times!

hardly "gameplay" 2 hours circling a planet, FD are morons.

Thanks, but I've already tried that. All I got were Degraded Emissions (not Threat 2) and my time wasted.

After 2 hours total I gave up.

I don't know what FD are thinking, but this isn't gameplay.

Just picked up a UP at PLEIADES SECTOR KC-U B3-1 8 using the following technique: approach planet to around 17Mm then orient so that the planet is directly to the left or right. Start looping (tight circles) at max throttle and maintaining the distance.

This spawned two USS in quick succession, and the second was a threat 2.

After almost 5 hours of looking, I'm off to see the base.

Worked perfectly mate. I've been messing around for hours for a few days. Thanks :)

If I told you how long I looked for that stupid siht your plight would seem like a morning stroll! Over three days I spent at least 20 hours. It's more than that but that's all I'll say.

I don't want to but I agree. Sometimes I get the feeling like frontier didn't expect to make the game as they made it , or that it got made atall. They definitely didn't expect to still be doing it this far in with such a dedicated fan base, and they don't really know what to do as far is making the game bigger or better . Sure their r quality of life improvements. But have you tried mining, or trading in over year?? Hell no!

Worked for me aswell...
Tried mode-switching first without success,
but closing the client completely spawned one after a moment in SC...
(May have been pure luck, but worth a try ;))
