Troubles to locate the Unknown Probe

im so off with this hunting , i mean i work full time job i aint got 6 hours a day to circle a planet , if anyone has a spare ill pay £5 on paypal for it

Yes, this is the +×÷$%&€ thing about ED,well the 2nd, networking being the worst.
I spent 6 hours over 3 nights in 3 systems till I got one. Next time I will stick to youtube.

I spent an hour and a half spinning around the ammonia world in OP's system on Thursday, and another hour on Friday morning.
Not too much of a hassle, I was streaming the game to my Windows tablet so I could watch TV at the same time.
The spawning appears completely random, I tried all of the above. It just popped up in front of me, I was doing about 500km/s almost out of range of the planet.

After 4 long boring hours looking around a Pleiades Ammonia World for an unknown probe, I finally found DEGRADED EMISSIONS: THREAT LEVEL 2.

That's it, I thought! An unknown probe! Finally!

And that was the moment my finger accidentally nicked the "drop out of supercruise" key.

When I was too far from the signal source... travelling slowly enough to DROP OUT OF SUPERCRUISE into the middle of nowhere.

AAARGH. lol

Okay, here's the interesting thing: I had done a particular set of actions right before finding that probe USS... so I repeated them all... and within a minute of flying in supercruise, found another unknown probe!

Here's what I did...

1. Flew about 0.11 ls away from the Ammonia World in question (Pleiades Sector IX-S B4-0).
2. Exited the entire game client (ie. shut down).
3. Loaded up, selected Open Play.
4. Low-waked up into Supercruise.
5. Flew around at slow to moderate speed for less than a minute, and got "Discovered signal source"... and it was indeed an Unknown Probe.

So if you're going totally mad, thinking the game is broken, as it's not giving you any probe goodness, well, perhaps it IS broken. Perhaps the probe is meant to appear after a short time around that world, but doesn't... but it's not broken when you first start up the game and log in.

Give it a try, I say.

There is no ammonia world in Pleiades Sector IX-S B4-0.

This rechnique worked perfectly. Thanks. If you get too close the planet icon on the hud will go red. Stay above that level and above 200km/s and boom! every time. Also, corrosive resistant cargo racks or youll be crying about losing the cargo like i did.

I got the probe and then raced to get a UA from an alien crash site, and then spent a feverish fifteen minutes trying to find my way to and in a Thargoid base, all while my modules were taking a pounding. Stressful without resistant cargo racks, I can tell you.
Especially as once inside, I didn't have a clue what to do. My SRV was taking damage as well...

After 2 hours tonight and only 2 threat 0 (degraded emissions) and 1 threat 3 (distress call) USS's I'm frakkin' done.

Next time I want to find a good use for £35 (LEP) I'll flush it down the toilet.

G A M E P L A Y - look it up FD.

PS : Still have a lot of respect for DB OBE because he has done a bucket load of good stuff, but my patience and respect end there right now :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

The techniques reported above have worked for most people. ED in general can get "stuck" at times and a re-log or board swap fixes things. I do feel your pain but with so many options of things to do in ED, why not go do something else? Come help me navigate out to Livingstone Point!

Tried this method 5 mins ago at PLEIADES SECTOR KC-U B3-1 8 and after I aligned my ship between the planet and the nearest Star the Unknown Probe spawned. I was at 0.11ls distance and travelling at about 260km/s.

Whole process took less than 5 mins once I was at 0.11ls distance from the planet.

A few board hops and tried different distance from the planet... only stayed in any instance for 3 minutes or so... got one after about an hour of trying so it is possible.
As much as anything I think it's about getting the distance right to spawn USS's then it a case of being lucky!
Off to see the bases! :)
