True Bounty Hunting... Will We See It You Think?

I like the whole "most wanted bounties" on the side panel, I always look at that wherever I go. However, while it's a cool feature, it doesn't say whether they people are currently online or not (it doesn't give dates) and there's no way to actually track them down, aside from going to their system and hoping they go to supercruise and drive around a bit. I.E. no actual way of tracking down lucrative targets.

Will we ever see advanced tracking systems for bounty hunting?

Don't know if any of you played SWG (star wars galaxies) before it shut down, but being able to get live updates from your probe droid and track them across the galaxy (about 10 planets) was one of the coolest things in that game. It was true bounty hunting and I miss that. Before you could track, you had to go to an informant and get their bio signature, was amazingly cool.

Right now, player bounty hunting is purely done by chance. While fun... I'd still like the chance to hunt down some bigger, specific targets for big money rather than just fly around and scanning random people. Actually hunt them down, travel great distances, just to get a shot at them for massive pay days. That would be A LOT of fun.

I wouldn't even mind separate modules for this -- or items such as probe droids that go out and ping different systems in the area your target was last located.

Surely I can't be the only one wishing for this, right?

Advanced tracking sounds wayyyyy to invasive, running into the guy should be intense. With a constant tracker on him he will literally have 20 commanders on him at a time. Takes away the feeling of success for finding and killing the guy, also would result in people with relatively small bounties on the top list with everyone on the list being so easily identified.

I think the higher the bounty the more accurate the tracking data should be, to simulate the importance the authorities put on stopping them and the resources they are putting towards tracking them. That way if someone with a small bounty is on top of the list they won't have 20 people on their butts, but if there are 3 or 4 people with 6 figure bounties then there will be tight tracking on all of them.

The devs definitely have acknowledged that the social tools are way lacking, and hopefully the introduction of wings in the next month or two will make coordinated system sweeps much easier to do.

If you are worth millions of credits, I would think life would be very invasive.

Yeah, more dangerous you are, the better you are tracked. Couldn't agree more.

The biggest problem is, 1. Are they online? 2. Can you get into the same "island" (instance) as them. As far as advanced tracking, perhaps some more information in the panel, but I'm a little weary of anything too invasive. My biggest suggestion is to see where they frequent the most and try hanging at around in that system(s).

When I was trying to hunt a few of em', I did exactly that. Waited in the systems they were pinged as being in the most, and found them. They ran on me though once the fight turned south, but it certainly was fun, couldn't pin em' down with my Viper (Cobras are faster unfortunately). But it really boils down to the two problems I've listed above. The biggest being if they're even online.

It would be nice if you could see an online list of wanted players with their last known system presence, that alone would be a huge upgrade in my book.

I forgot about the whole instance thing... yes, that would be a problem.

The are they online thing is most important I think. Because there is nothing worse than searching for a offline bounty.

This is a really great idea.

Would make the killing game much more fun for both sides.

Because lets face it, right now - however much you may want to - the chance of actually finding a specific (non-friended) Commander in-game are pretty close to... zero.

I would also like to see bounties put one your head for killing an "innocent" commander to be impossible to pay off until a certain period of time without committing any crimes against a human player has passed (say 14 days) and then at a premium cost (5x? 10x?): the thinking being, once an outlaw always an outlaw (in whichever faction space you commit the crimes), but with the chance to "repent" if you show good behaviour for long enough.

I agree somewhat that paying a fine for outright murder isn't ideal. I shot this man in the face... here's 9k. I'm rich... I'm going to go shoot more people in the face that I don't like! HAHAHAHAHAHA!

Murder should be bounty only and unpayable. And this is coming from a pirate who murders people... in the face!!!

Yeah, a "show online online" option would be ideal. Can never find one of these top bounties. Supposedly, the 2 I was searching for were just 2 systems over.... but I couldn't find them... after hours of flying around those systems.

Forgive me for activating an old thread. What about paying station resource contacts for location information. If the commander with the bounty is actually friendly with a faction controlling the station, they give you incorrect information and send you on a wild goose chase. The amount you pay would be in proportion to the distance they are from the station, and the level of bounty they have on them, and how much they are hated in the current system. Tracking bounty free commanders should be incredibly expensive. This give a better bounty hunting experience than just fishing the USS for NPC's like it is now. Maybe the factions could give you missions to take out particular real life commanders they do not like.

Its broken. Last update from 22 dec. And as you say there are many factors that breaks bounty hunting. Instance, date of update

Real bounty hunting? Nah, as long as people can wipe their own bounties easier than they can wipe their noses, nope - not gonna happen.

If you take a look at Isinona's latest video (see link) you can see how interesting real bounty hunting can be, they are massive payouts so I don't think it should be that easy to find the criminals. Would even be cool to have a whole new Elite ranking tier based solely on kills that reward more than 250k or 500k credits. This would obviously take a very long time to max out but it would effectively be creating a whole new Detective 'class' in the game.

But the data in the video is from 22dec. Totally useless. Also how do we know they will be in same instance?
