Yup, but back then people also thought Magnum PI, Knight Rider, Dynasty and Falcon Crest were good TV programmes and were buying records by Bananarama and Wham!

I don't know why you got Bananarama in there if you're trying to make the point that the Eighties were bad. There was worse out there, but that's because it's easy to go through a whole decade and cherry-pick its worst aspects.

And television was always bad with the occasional peek of glorious goodness, much like it is today.

One of my major gripes with modern telly output: it basically assumes everybody is a plank that needs to be spoken to as patronisingly as possible.

Really miss some of the old science/tech series that made new subjects accessible but also didn't assume you were unable to deal with trickier concepts.

The internet is probably the equivalent of those programmes. Back in '84, if you wanted to watch or learn about something, you had to either hope there was a TV programme about it, or buy a book on the subject. These days there is a vastly wider array of information available online and it's far easier for people to put their knowledge out there to a wide audience. That's why TV is dead and why the License fee is going soon. And frankly, good riddance to it. I don't watch TV much, if at all, since 99 percent of it is simply a carrier for marketing and aimed at total goddam morons.

Names are names... they can sound lame but it depends what is in front of you.

If Trumbles are updated to being a vicious virus that infects your system without the furry element and if Thargoid ships are brutal in design (not a grey UFO - imo) and behaviour, then your attitude to the name changes.
