Truth Can Hurt and But Can Set You Free

Remember the good ole' days (I'm probably much older than a lot of you) when we got a game and we enjoyed it? We used to be such a peaceful folk, but a couple of years down the road everything blew up and will always remain destroyed within the gaming community. By "we" I mean gamers. Also, remember the days that everything wasn't free and you got what you paid for? We used to go out, buy our games, and play until our thumbs fell off, our vision went blurry, and we kept headaches for months at a time. Ah, good times. So, what happened?

Now if I visit gaming forums, accounts I follow on Twitter, and other social media outlets that are open to gaming dicussion all I really ever read are angry responses, especially in regards to gaming developers. And if you love a game that someone may hate, be prepared to go into battle because the battle field was drawn down the middle. Either you're for it, or against it, and if you're for it than you're the "reason" why the game bombed. Nobody is happy anymore, nor does anyone understand the concept of "opinion" and "constructive criticism".

Or maybe I'm completely wrong and living in a "can we just be friends" kinda world. Maybe the hostility, the distaste for games, and feuding has always existed since the beginning of video games? Since we have Twitter and gaming forums it's just easier for us to berate companies, the work they've put into their games, and the players who either love it or hate it? I'm an old lady, forgive my assumptions.

Granted, some of the anger I come across is warranted, and game developers and distributors, along with all of their public relations staff need to be held accountable 100% of the time, and we've seen over and over the past few years of botched releases is unacceptable. So there is a time and a place when the berating is forgiven and understandable. But I digress, my post is about the ungrateful ones. The whiners as I call them. The ones who want to make a scene and throw a tantrum just for tantrum sake. I'm a nice person, or at least I try to be, and I speak the truth, and as my grandmother always said, "make yourself an honest woman, and then you may be sure there is one less rascal in the world." Hey, grandma knew best!

WE ARE A NATION OF INSATIABLE GAMERS WITH AN ENDLESS APPETITE THAT, REGARDLESS OF ACTIONS TAKEN BY DEVELOPERS, WE WILL NEVER, EVER, EVER BE SATISFIED, EVER!

And it seems like there's always a general theme of disgust in all gaming communities "We don't want that, we need this! We asked for this, but you're giving us that!" Or, "We want, we want, we want! Free! Free! Free!" Well, I'll let you in on a little secret, my dears. The gift wasn't for just you. It wasn't created just for YOUR entertainment. It was for ALL PLAYERS that don't get to play as often as the jobless. Oh, I'm sorry, that was mean, even for me to say. It's for the players who enjoy a casual game. Yes, Planet Coaster is a casual game. It's not hardcore. It's not a Destiny game, or a Dungeons & Dragon's kind of game. It's a casual game. Yes, maybe some of us spend an excessive amount of time creating content to share on the workshops or just want to escape reality for a bit in the game. But it still makes it a casual game. It's a constructive and management simulation.

Enough of getting off topic.

My post is more on talking about this entitlement and expectations the new generation of gamers who expect everything to be handed to them, and their demands met at every turn, leap and bound. I'm sorry to inform you, hunny, but life isn't fair. We don't get everything we want in life. It's just the way life works. When did we become so ungrateful? The only thing game companies owe us is a working title. That's it. Anything additional (and FREE) is simply a bonus and a show of APPRECIATION to ALL PLAYERS. Not just the "entitled ones".

I remember coming onto Planet Coaster, before I signed up, and this was such a peaceful community, but now it's turned into a rough and roudy Sims copycat of a community.

In closing, enjoy the games you enjoy and be thankful that developers, especially Frontier Developments have an active role in the game, even after release. They could have just released it and moved on to other ventures. Think about that. A lot of game developers do this. If a game is broken, be angry. I understand the pain of playing a broken game. If the game works, be happy. If the developers give us FREE STUFF, be thankful. Super simple stuff. And just because it's not in a game, doesn't make it the end of the world. Have patience. Express constructive criticism and for once, express your opinion but understand YOUR OPINION IS NOT THE ONLY OPINION THAT M A T T E R S! (I had to scream that last bit, just for the fun of it.)

This is not going to end well, I would suggest not using large font it looks annoying especially with all the caps, and maybe shorten your post? Oh and seriously, not that many people are asking for anything to be free. Maybe some people are, but not the majority

Did you ever think that some people do have money, but are still choosing not to buy because they simply don't like the content? Having a computer to run this game on top of the price of the game is not a small amount of cash. Clearly this isn't just about a few dollars, this is about the overall direction of future content. I guess you don't care though, thats why you're just angry [wink]

funny how you talk about entitlement, but don't understand how other people are allowed to have a different opinion than you [rolleyes]

I don't have my contacts in at the moment. I'm currently sick with a horrible flu at the moment so when I have my contacts in my eyes start to water horribly. So I used the larger caps so I could read. Plus, a lot of people do complain about small fonts, so oh well, people can just get over it if they find the large font offensive. People are too serious in a life that's filled with pain, loss, and sadness, so if someone gets offended by my 'font' size, then they need to grow up. Get angry at the real point of my post. Truth hurts, and I make no apologies.

Also, if you don't like the content than you have every right not to buy, just don't get on here and berate the developers and trash the game because they release something that you may, personally, not enjoy. I love Starbucks, but I hate Pumpkin Spice Lattes. I'm not going to get on Starbucks Twitter account and trash or even talk about how much I hate it just because I don't like it. It's silly.

You spew a lot of advice that you don't actually commit to. You say its wrong for others to share their opinion? Why are you on here crying? I'd recommend not taking too much cough syrup, it makes you hazy

Maybe you just don't understand how an internet forum works?? And if you want to see only praise for something that you enjoy then you're going to have a very bad time in life my friend.

We have the right to discuss things here, both positive and negative stuff. Stop trying to say otherwise. It's incredibly disrespectful to the whole community.

Um, having a flu is not crying. The problem with opinion is everyone believes their opinion rules over another's opinion. I have respectfully agreed on disagreements with people on here. And many of us enjoy certain features and aspects of the game, and can agree and disagree on others. It's when, just like the Spooky DLC was announced, when certain people started to disrespect Frontier. My problem is when something they don't like they don't want to talk about it in a mature sense of understand and give some criticism when needed, instead they want to rip the developers a new one. And then go on about how they paid so much money for the game, and promises weren't kept, when there was never a promise made in the first place, and all assumptions are turned into "facts".

We all play the game differently, that we can all agree on. Some players like the management aspect, while others enjoy the building and creating aspect. I'm a bit of both. I like both spectrums of the game. We're going on 1 year since release, but that doesn't mean certain aspects are going to be ignored. Some want management expanded. Some want tools to evolve. Some want UGC and Mod Support, and the list goes on and on. Just because it's not in the game at the moment, doesn't mean it will never be in the game.

And as far as, and I don't apologize for calling certain people "whiners". My kids are whiners who expect me to buy them everything and when I tell them to get a job, I'm automatically the Mean Old Lady. I wear that name proudly. You work for what you have. So if the content isn't to your liking, why berate the company or trash talk the product? It's not free, so you have no worries there. If it's because of Workshop creations, there's a workaround for that.

Also, expressing my opinion doesn't make me a hypocrite. I'm entitled to my opinion just like you have every right to call me a hypocrite. Call me a whiner, I really could care less. I don't know you, for all I know you could be a 9-year-old kid, or a 45-year-old enthusiast. Either way, I truly don't care about personal opinion of me. I've been called far worst to my face, and I survived. But here's the thing... I express my view as a gaming community in a whole, not just Planet Coaster. We are an entitled bunch of people who has been spoiled, true? We are spoiled people. Not just from games, but with every day occurences and lifestyles. Someone wins $1,000 scratch-off who was standing in front of me, so thus, that should have been my ticket and they should half it with me. Just an example that people truly think that way.

If my opinion is deemed "offensive" than I state my case. And my post isn't really disrespectful to the community when people are being disrespectful to the game developers.

are you even talking about the game ??

This thread you created is one of the most offensive posts I've seen on these forums. Large font, caps, calling people whiners, saying other peoples opinions are wrong, talking about everyday life struggles, is this a therapy session?

and this thread is mature?? some people might ask for free stuff, but many of us do give helpful criticism. You can also just ignore those you feel are complaining too much, instead of making it worse

Can't people just use normal letters? Yesterday we had black letters on grey background now we have kingsize letters. [weird]

You make a very good, and very valid point. But playing devil's advocate, remember the days when you went to the store and bought a finished/complete game? remember when the product you bought didn't need day-one patches to even play it cause the developers knew they screwed up big time pressing the disc, and you didn't have to make sure your internet connection worked to be able to try the game you just bought? Remember when ❤︎❤︎❤︎❤︎❤︎❤︎❤︎❤︎❤︎❤︎❤︎, unfinished products didn't go on sale, just to reach some arbitrary publishing date? (with some exceptions, of course. Looking at you , you hatefull ET cartridge on Atari 2600!! {yeah, I'm THAT old, too})

The day the developers started putting out unfinished products and hoping to fix problems down the road (and basically use the end user as a beta tester), they opened the doors to these kinds of arguments, like it or not.

Just my two cents.

Actually my 45 year old eyes find the king-size letters rather enjoyable. You know, not having to squint and all... a man's treasure is another man's poison...

I personally like and agree on what 2mileDollywood said, and she ssid it better than me. Thank you!

If you want people to be friends disrespectful and condescending comments are probably not the way to go about it. Belittling others is not gonna make this a better community. OP implies or even expressively calls people angry, hostile even, ungrateful whiners, the entire "new generation" of gamers is entitled and expecting everything be handed to them, ungrateful , impatient, not constructive. This isn't truth, it's just spiteful. I really don't understand how anyone could be applauding such an appaling post.

Anyway, hope you feel better soon.

Ahh yea, another one bending our words trying to make it look like paying for DLC is the problem. Get your facts straight before you post, people do not mind paying, at least most of them don´t mind it....
