Trying Elite on new M4 Pro Mac Mini via CrossOver

Hello Commanders, wish me luck at the next phase of my Elite adventures... I am currently downloading Elite in Steam through CrossOver on my new Mac Mini M4 Pro. I read on the web some others have had luck, and others not so much.

I was a long time console player, and bought a gaming PC this month to port my xbox account to PC. It's been interesting checking out Odyssey finally! Bummed that I failed to damage Titan Cocijo for the CG this week as it took awhile to get set up with AX equipment and figure it out. I got a little father each attempt, and in my last one managed to destroy a few vents and just as the pineappple might open I got swarmed and my ship went boom. Then the CG ended before more attempts the following night after work. ANYway, I might keep the Windows PC, but if I can get Elite running well on my Mac, then I'd prefer to return the Windows PC.

Well... first attempt failed. Downloaded and isntalled Elite in Steam. CLicked Play and after some humming along got error "Unhandled Exception: mono-io-layer-error (60724416). Sigh.

good news, I got Elite playing on my Mac Mini M4 pro using crossover! I think I messed up originally by installing steam then Elite through steam... then learned that there's a direct Elite download from crossover list of apps that goes through all the steps properly. I did it, but hadn't deleted and started from scratch first. Once I did that, it worked! :)

Good questions. Anecdotally I can say it ran great, just like it did on the windows computer. I played for like 3-4 hours before I packed up the windows computer and returned it. Also the Mac was warm but not crazy hot. How do I display FPS in the game?

It's still possible to get the double engineered drives if you can harvest the propulsion thingies and the Titan Drive component from Cocijo's graveyard - the (human) Tech Broker will unlock it for you.

But you'll need the Sol permit now to get in system and I don't know if those components will still spawn after this Thursday's tick.

Oh yes Tifu, I spent last week collecting those titan drive components and bought the pre-engineered eco drives for each size for my fleet. I have Sol permit, but I went to an old dead Titan site. Worked well enough, lots of boring flying back and forth as lots of people lament you're just at RNG mercy.

Thanks Blaggerdy, I'll try Ctrl F when I play next.
