Hey everyone, I am trying to play with my friends but the game starts them in CRAZY far away places making it impractical to even try. Is there any way to all spawn together? or at least somewhere close?
Ive googled my heart out and cant find anything on it.

a private group is the same as playing in open play, except you will never see player who aren't in the private group.
You are still in the same galaxy, private groups aren't like lobby's to arrange starting positions or anything like that.
Trying to play with friends is basically non existent because of this mechanic. If they allow you to have multiple characters you could have one that you play with a friend, and leave that one parked in the same system for the next time both of you are online, and another character for when you play without them.
Until then you will need to travel to meet up each time.
The matchmaking is much better than it was. and if you do get to the same system there is a good chance you will be able to see them if they are on your friends list, but its isn't guaranteed. If you don't see them drop out of supercruise and then reenter supercruise until it works.
