Newcomer / Intro Trying to reach friends in the Sol system

I am trying to figure out how to plot a long distance course, and I am not figuring it out.

When I search for the sol system it shows me where it is in relation to where I am now, but it wont let me plot a course. I know that I do not have enough fuel to get there, but I figured I could plot a course, and then pickup fuel at stations along the way.

What am i doing wrong?

if it is less than 100ly in total then wait for the blue web (route planner) to finish drawing in and then select plot route

if its over 100ly then the best i can suggest is pick somewhere heading in that direction and try going there first

The Galaxy Map will calculate routes up to ~70ly. For greater distances just use this handy tool.
