Trying to up my combat skills - Toggle FA question

Hi all,

I'm finding the new NPC pretty challenging, and that's good, but while I've been attempting to improve my combat skills I've been having problems with a rather unfortunate effect. Basically, I toggle FA off when I want to turn really hard, then I toggle it back on and frequently find myself in full reverse thrust, effectively putting myself right in my enemies forward batteries. :)

Its completely possible this is me just being clumsy with my 360 controller, but I didn't used to do it, I'm sure...... has anyone else experienced this.

I do too, my theory is that the AI was programmed to respond to simple FA-Off turn maneuvers. Time to modify my technique.

This is what the FA off turn does; it forces a head-to-head matchup. if you don't want to be fired on, the FA off turn isn't a great choice.

Hit boost just as you're coming out of your turn; that'll correct your now-backwards-thrust pretty quickly.

Of course, there's a fair benefit to being able to keep your nose pointed at an enemy if you have the firepower and/or shield advantage.

When you do an FAoff turn, your ships spins on it's axis, but maintains it's momentum/speed in the direction you were originally traveling. So, I believe, or have noticed, that when you exit FAoff you will have the speed your ship would have been going in that direction initially. I.E. a 180 deg. turn in FAoff will result in what amounts to reverse thrust when you Exit FAoff.

That's why the speed change seems random. You aren't always making a perfect 180 deg. turn. Without a HOTAS style throttle, I've have to make a habit of resetting my speed by pressing my +1/2 throttle key, each time I exit FAoff. Often with a reserved for that instance Boost, in my new direction of travel.

When you come out of fa-off it locks your throttle to the direction and speed you were traveling in while faoff.

This i why i hit zero throttle after every fa-off maneuver.
