TURN OFF THE REFUND MECHANISM

Having the same issue... And I don't think it has anything to do with how we have designed our zoos. This issue has occured suddenly after 1.1.0 update in zoos that were really profitable before and where I had not a single thought about having seen or not X species. What is even more, I have observed this issue in the new Mexican career mode scenario too, without touching anything, only opening the predefined scenario and speeding up time, and after a couple of months guests start thinking that they would have wanted to stay longer to see X species. (Note that this scenario is small, no big plazas, and just few enclosures... But after 10-15 minutes they think is a good idea to go back home and ask for a refund). So... I think it's an issue that is, indeed, affecting some people.

I'd rather see most forms of refund removed, simply because it's unrealistic (similar to staff buildings annoying guests). I doubt any real zoo would provide a refund for things as petty as not seeing a specific animal or just being 'unhappy' (though refunds if an animal escapes seem perfectly reasonable). Sadly, I think it's highly unlikely they're going to change either mechanic.

I mean...can you imagine someone at the front desk trying to demand a refund because they didn't see a leopard, it rained, there was a queue at the restaurant and they saw a broken bench/litter? Pretty sure you know exactly what the zoo's staff would tell them.

I just had some protestors in my zoo.. Had too much macaques in my habitat, 2 were starving.. I noticed a small decline in donations but no refunds..
(this is 1 of my smaller zoos, 1500 visitors, 7 habitats, 5 exhibits and a slowly steadily rising 30-40k profit a year)

I heavily agree with that you need to have too many shops.. I got everything in the greens but it requires a lot of shops (which looks ugly)

Don't get me wrong, i've seen a lot of screenshots of people complaining about this.. And most people have a lot of notifications or their visitors mood isn't that great.
I feel that the problem is not the refunds but another problem..

I've had to place shops INSIDE walkthrough habitats because the guests are too dumb to see that there are shops either side of the gate they are heading to... Which by the way are then ignored completely...

the guests then promptly walk past these shops, turn around and go home, demanding refunds.

And this is why the request to turn off the refund mechanism until it is fixed or re-balanced is needed.

Sry, that request doesn't make any sense. I think you need to rethink the layout of your zoo...
While it looks pretty, I can see some flaws.. In short; there are too many spots where there is not enough activity (too much path/not too much shops/habitats)..

Judging from your screenshots you only have a few shops (i agree, guest need for shops is too high)
So they could be unhappy before even entering that area.

Don't know how big the waiting line is with those shops, but if it's too long - they will look for another less crowded one.

Unhappy visitors have more impact on your finances. I think your zoo (before the update) was on the tipping point of being a happy/unhappy place.

I had this type of unhappy guest show up for the first time after patch 1.1.1 in a new zoo with only three habitats
I disagree. When you have guests with 100% bars leaving with the thoughts of "I wish I had stayed longer to see XXX" (and there are 3 animals they didn't get to see) getting a full refund. There is something wrong.

I’ve seen this the first time in the second scenario of the Artic Pack. Although it might have been already present in the first one since in this scenario, which was the first time ever I actually had to take out a loan just to finish the gold level before going bankrupt. And the second scenario is set up with lots of issues such as way too much staff to pay. But still, the refund amount is very high in this scenario due to people leaving while wishing they had stayed longer.

But the main point is: Maybe the guests’ complaints are in one way or the other even justified and their general unhappiness prevents them from going to see their favorite animal - who knows? - The developers know because they created this message and must know exactly what triggers it.

If this is not a bug, please, Frontier, add some more information regarding the causes. You promised us a better break-down of the refund reasons just to add a new one that leaves everybody as baffled as the generic message before. How can we address it when we don’t know what caused it?

If this is a bug or a feature not yet working quite the way it should, please let us know that as well so we know this will be fixed soon.

I've been reporting this and other issues on the issue tracker (or been adding my vote to already-reported issues), but other than keeping an eye on updates and sharing my ideas here there's not much I can do. Besides, these forums are, in part, to discuss topics, aren't they?

Yes, they are for sure. However, this issue has been discussed for weeks and every second patch had been brought changes to visitors' happiness. But without any detailed explantion in patch notes and no detailed comment here in the forums by devs.

I agree with you, and for those that still want refunds, that's fine make it an option. I do believe happiness is currently bugged and have reported on the tracker if you would like to add to it. I would keep all refunds on except for the unhappy guests, because it's just not realistic and I think they need to balance the AI more and should give us an option to turn it off while they sort it out.

In my franchise zoo after 03 patch the happiness does not seem to update based on the guests stats and is causing refunds due to unhappiness. Link to issue https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/11269

I think if we really need a gold sink in this game, the better way is to increase refunds only when there are protestors or when people flee from escaped animals. Remove the refund because the guests did not see an animal.

Also increase land tax and inspector penalties if needed.

Just remove the unnecessary refund just because of unhappy guests.
