Turret weapons in fire group?

Yep. It's done this way so you can have some control over your turrets without having to retract all of your hardpoints or manually disable modules.

Unfortunately it's not a toggle, so once you fire turrets you can't stop them without changing the fire group or retracting hard points.

On the plus side, you can put the turrets in the same fire group as your other weapons, and just pop off a round to get them going.

Ahhhhhhh - hadn't realised you needed to get them going - that explains a lot!

Makes a bit of a mockery of "fire at will" though doesn't it?

Hello

For turreted weapons to fire at will, do they still have to be in a fire group?

Thanks,
Ackoman

I have turreted small, medium, and large burst lasers on the nose of my vette (set to fire at will), with huge gimballed beams up top. All in one fire group. As someone else said, I can pop off a short burst from the huge beams to activate the burst turrets, then I just wait for the target to attempt a jousting pass to melt them into oblivion as they pass. Usually to starboard. :)

As also mentioned, you can switch to another fire group (in my case, my system scanner) to get them to stop if need be. Like when you pull the trigger on a target before the scan finishes...:D

So what exactly is the difference between "fire at will" and "target only" ?

Target Only fires at your currently selected target once you squeeze the trigger once, and keeps firing, even if you overheat lasers and wipe out your Capacitor, Fire At Will shoots at ANY hostiles. IE in a CZ you will aggro quite a lot of ships, and as mentioned, will be facing the 'Rebuy-Screen Minigame' shortly :) You know youre winning when you hear EJECT, EJECT, EJECT

Target only does what it sounds like, the turrets only fire on your current target.

Fire at will means that the turrets will fire on any hostile ship, which can be good for dealing with multiple targets at once. But you have to be careful because they have a habit of spraying every ship nearby, including security ships.

I don't do CZs, only res and CNBs, so it is handy when I take on a wing and my burst lasers are taking on one ship, while I concentrate on the most dangerous one.

It is interesting that you say they (the fire-at-will turrets) will fire at everything in range. I've not had that happen that I know of, and in a CNB I would know realy quick if I engaged one wing and all of a sudden I'm fighting two dozen ships. And that has not happened.

There have been a few rare occasions where I'll be happily shooting at bad guys when all of a sudden I notice I am Wanted for nicking someone who wasn't even in my FOV? Maybe I'll give Target Only a try and see how that works. (I wonder if my SLF will only shoot the target I have highlighted, or will he continue to take on a target's wing-mates?)
