Turreted beam lasers always on

I was curious and decided to try out the turreted beam lasers. They work well except for one thing: I can't turn them off. I tried switching them to their own fire group but it doesn't matter. They start up on their own whenever weapons are deployed and there is a hostile ship in the vicinity. I can't control when they fire. Am I missing something, or is that the way they are suppose to work?

+1 for you! lol

I knew I had to be missing something. I couldn't believe they would put a laser out that fires all the time without any control.

Okay, so changing the setting to "target only" didn't change their behaviour. I still can't control when they fire. The only other setting is "forward fire" which is equivalent to fixed lasers. I'm swapping them out for something I can control. Are all beam lasers this way?

All turreted weapons are this way.

All turret weapons do their own thing even when not in a fire group :( I hoped they would only work in active fire groups myself.
I guess its a trade off for their larger arc of fire (even though they have lower damage)

They are automated to deal with incoming missiles or to shoot at an angle you cant. Basically to aid you. But indeed, the "target only" setting should work on engaged targets only. That seems like an issue atm. Ticket it and FD will get on the case.

@Max Steele: Thanks. So it's the turret. I was concerned the description "continuous fire" meant they all did that, as opposed to my original (and correct) thought it just means a continuous beam when I pull the trigger.

@FX2K: I'm with you on this. If they made them so they only worked in an active fire group, I could deal with that.

I swapped them out for gimballed. I lost over 400,000 credits in the process. I received a "server transaction error" and got logged off. When I logged back in, it had swapped the weapon but didn't give me back the refund I was due for swapping to a cheaper item.

There is a small workaround I use. Set to target only and once you also target opponent's subsystem your turrets will not fire anymore. Don't know if intended or just another bug... So pretty much I keep my enemy below me and once shields are down target their cargo hatch which effectively turns off the beam turrets.
