Turreted multicannons

I was kitting out my shiny new cobra yesterday in Aulin and came across "C4 Multicannon (T)" ( I think it was C4).

Now I have a point defence turret, which I believe is for missile defence. Ive not used the cobra in anger yet as I want to build a lot of spare cash first.

So, what is this?
 
It's a turreted Multicannon. a C4(T) goes into a class 6 slot I believe.
AFAIK turrets are pretty bad at hitting their target, but apparently weapons like Multicannons are bettter.
 
Weapons with (T) are turretted, and can be set to Fixed, Fire at my Target, or Fire at Will in the functions tab on the Right-hand UI panel.

Don't use Fire at Will unless you are happy to aggro everything nearby, and be aware that the function can be reset (to Fire at Will) when you hyperspace.
 
Ah, okay. No, I don't really want my guns shooting at ANYTHING unless I press the trigger, so I will stick with gimballed as the height of automation.
 
In premium beta, the reports were that the turret ai wasn't quite there yet. Anyone seen them in action in beta? Are they fixed yet?
 
Where did you find them I fancy trying them with my Lakon six if I can fit them I take it thats what their purpose are, running away weapons for a running away merchant ;)
 
I'm hoping that the giant ships that should be in the final game can be covered in auto turrets that only strike enemies which are red on the radar.

You would still need clear fire authority over them or they could be an expensive waste. If you had 4 x Turreted missile launchers for instance. If they shot their bolt at any red triangle you would run dry very very quickly, as would your bank balance.

No (T) missile launchers as yet, and if your turrets are set to Fire at my Target, they won't fire at anything if you don't have a target.
 
...but if you were cycling through several targets, you would hear *poppoppoppoppopopopopop* as your turreted missile racks sprayed all around wasting ordnance.

There may be a funky implementation (missile authority), or I cant see it working.

OK thats ood. So whats the difference between C3 Gimballed Multicannon and C4 multicannon (G) ??? I dont get it.

The (T) means turreted and a C3 Turret pulse laser is turreted also .. hae ??? *** ??

There are no Turretted missiles.

And fire control for the turrets needs careful management, or you end up aggro'ing an entire combat zone, never mind ammo conservation... :D
 
A ship covered in free-firing turreted missile launchers would be amazing.

And missiles aren't that expensive when you're flying a big trader... :cool:

I've been trying out C1 turreted pulse lasers on my Cobra - they can't aim worth a damn but it's very Millenium Falcon watching the guns firing vertically up and over as ships fly by. Last setup I was trying before the client disconnected is 3 turreted beam lasers and a gimballed beam... what the heck. :D
 
Imagine if eventually you can sacrifice cargo space for munitions. You could create a honey trap with a sidewinder fitted with 2 x turreted missile launchers and 4 x cargo spaces tuned over to missile storage.

Just slowly bumbling along in the asteroids.......:rolleyes:

Just a wee little sidey.....

Then opportunist (and without cargo scanning) pirate attacks and BANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANG!
 
Imagine if eventually you can sacrifice cargo space for munitions. You could create a honey trap with a sidewinder fitted with 2 x turreted missile launchers and 4 x cargo spaces tuned over to missile storage.

Well, the triple turreted beam / one gimballed beam setup was entertaining - the bright strobing beams cartwheeling about everywhere except where they were meant to be, the accidental engaging of four federal patrol craft, the utter inability to hit a nearly stationary Lakon 6 at four hundred paces, the desperate flight with heat over 140% and hull trashed - but it's not something I'd recommend as a practical loadout. :D
