Turrets, Fire at Will and ... wanted...

Hi.
I need to share my experience... in order to understand if I am unlucky, if the turrets are bugged... or ... I did not understood how they work.

I bought my Fed Dropship 2 days ago (wonderful ship !). I use this configuration :
- 1 Large Fixed Burst Laser 3
- 2 Medium Gimballed Gatling 2
- 2 Medium Turret Pulse Laser 2 (on each side)

5 times, I became wanted while killing pirates in an asteroid Belt. I never opened fire without having "analized" my target.
But each time, I was engaged but a wing of 3 NPC .... my turrets were in "Fire at wil".

So ... when 3 npc attack you and they are all RED ... can you attack them immediatly ?
Or you have to scan them ?
What about turrets so ?

I am loosing money and reputation ... it's a quite boring :(

Yeah, turrets in 1.3 are fixed so that they don't hit illegal targets and make you wanted.

At the moment they are bounty magnets.

Crivens OP! Do you not mean 'analysed'?

Analizing your targets could get you more than a virtual bounty...

Well ... should I specify I have NOT intentionnaly made a "word game" with "analized" ^^
I was talking about "scanning" NPC in order to know if they are wanted or not... we are ok ? :)

Yeah, turrets in 1.3 are fixed so that they don't hit illegal targets and make you wanted.

As far as PvP goes, they are even "fixed" in a way they won't hit anything at all, because they have been made vulnerable to chaff. So all the good changes to turrets won't matter, because soon nobody will use them any more, anyway.

*ahem, sorry about that.

So back on topic, I use a Fed dropship, which as its critics. For me one plus point the FDS has is good hardpoint placement.

It's maneuverability is not great but can be mitigated with A grade thrusters and gimballed weapons, no need for turrets.
I use 3 x gimablled beams and 2 x gimballed cannons.

The small ships are soon melted by the beams and the larger ships have less of a maneuverability advantage. The cannons make short work of powerplants.

I only play in solo, I can imagine the FDS is not an easy gig against good PvPers.
But in solo I have no problem single handed bringing down Elite 'conda's on assassination missions.

@ Colonel North :
Did you tried the Plasma Accelerator Tier 3 ?

I've only tried the PA on a Fer-de-lance (which has known hardpoint placements). I didn't like the charge up time, accuracy and cost of the PA, but might give it another go.

The current set up on the FDS is working well though so have a reluctance to fix what 'aint broke!
