turrets on big ships

player controled turrets are a must on large ships it makes no sense to put all you weapons forward if you can not bring them to bare on your enemy they are useless think about this B-17 was a big lumbering Bomer it simply could not turn fast enhough to get on the tail of a fighter so you have the weapons in turrets so you can turn the weapons on to the target not the aircraft

Turrets were in Frontier so I can only assume they will be in this game. Didnt the Anaconda have them? Certainly the Panther Clipper had them.

I love manning turrets in games, the turret in Privateer was the best bit of the game when you were running away blasting the enemy following you from the turret. I certainly expect them to be in this game and that you can man them rather than just have them automatically controlled.

One of my main vessels in FFE was a Panther clipper with top and bottom mounted 20MW beam lasers. Great for cargo runs in anarchy systems or making dodgy deliveries.

Currently, the only ship capable of fitting turrets is the Anaconda. No doubt there will be more in the final game.

turrets

want i want is a turret 360 degress like top turret and the bottom turret on B-17 They could be a option to slave all your turrets to a single gun site and bring them all to bare on a emeny but obviously not if the target in not in the guns fier arch EG only bottom turret if its below your ship

There will be player control (or at least command and control, as in energy allocation and targeting) of turrets once we can have multiple players on the same ship. Not much point before then though.

At the moment, turrets are there, trying to do their job but failing at it.
Might be because we can't hire crews at the moment to help operating them.

I really don't want to to be a scholar (since i can barely formulate an accurate sentence in english myself) but using punctuation marks would make reading and understanding your posts much easier (especially for people like me that are not native english).

I disagree: I can easily put the ship on autopilot and then man a rear turret to shoot whoever is behind. It would be even better if you can purchase various defensive software programs that can put a large ship through defensive manoeuvers automatically whilst you man the turrets. And even better if you can slave all the turrets to your turret so they all fire at the same point that you are firing at. I am sure there is lots of great gameplay potential in the use of turrets in large ships - lets not forget one of the best bits of Star Wars - the bit where Luke and Han man the turrets of the Millenium Falcon. It could be like having massed firepower at your disposal - very dangerous especially when several large ships are flying in formation (recreation of the Battle of Britain anyone?)

What would the game play and UI look like though? Would you effectively have a cursor with the turret weapon tracking to keep up with it. A bit like a gimbaled weapon?

Having a second person controlling turrets sounds like fun but there probably wouldn't be that much to actually do most of the time.

I agree with nats about letting your own AI fly the ship for a while. Maybe you can also switch most flight commands (power management for instance) between different players (including your personal AI).

All of the other Elite games had ship crews even though you couldn't do anything with them.

I am hoping this time we can assign duties to the crew. Like weapons officer, navigation, systems officer, etc.

Then I would like to be able to tell the NPC pilot something like get into SC as soon as you can, or keep as many guns toward the enemy as you can, while I man the weapons.

What is known regarding crews:

In the future I hope we will have the option to be a gunner inside one of our friend's ship (man the turret while your friend is piloting).

That would make for some awesome coop play. Your friend would have to avoid fire and lean enemies toward you while you shoot them down.
