Tutorial?? - How do you play this game???

Hmm, so I bought this game today after watching the trailer and a few player vids on youtube. Installed it but now I am stuffing around with trial and error trying to work out how to play the game. Is there a tutorial that explains how to do stuff? The help in the menu is pretty unhelpful. Graphics look good but instructions/tutorial appears to be non-existent and therefore gameplay experience sucks for a new starter. Any help would be appreciated.

Try the single player scenarios first, they help you to get used to controls and introduce things at a measured rate. Diving straight into multiplayer can be daunting at first.

Welcome aboard!

If you need any help or tips pootle along to this thread for some guidance etc. If you need help just ask, there's plenty out there willing to help out. But do have a go at searching first to see if your queries/prayers have already been answered ;)

To get yourself going, start off in the Federal Distress scenario and join the Eranin Defence faction (use the right hand menu, last tab, to do this). Do not shoot at anything that appears on your scanner with a hollow triangle or rectangle as these are PCs and most will likely retaliate. Shoot at anything with a solid red icon in the scanner you should manage to kill one every couple of minutes to start with and this will improve as you do.

If you die, do not worry, just get the free sidewinder again. Do not get the old loadout until you've built up a decent amount of cash in-game and are confident of making at least Cr3-4K between each death. At this point get your laser upgraded when you can afford to but make sure you always have at least twice and possibly three times the insurance value of your ship in reserve. Rinse and repeat until you can afford a bigger ship and carry on...

You will be able to start trading effectively when you get the Cobra so your options widen at that point...

Above all, keep practising and enjoy the game!

Are you in the Standard Beta or Premium Beta? If you are in the Premium Beta and in case you missed it - don't put a huge effort into advancing in multiplayer. We'll almost certainly all start again from square one when the Beta starts next week. So, just see now as a chance to learn and hit the ground running when Beta starts.

Welcome! My advice is to keep messing around untill you find what works for you. ED can be controlled with alot of different input devices and those devices can be set up anyway you want and that is ther key i think for new people to become comfortable with flying. I think the general thought is that a joystick is more comfortable to fly around but there are plenty of people that mastered ther M+KB.

Start out with the single player scenarios untill you are comfortable and then try out some of the available multiplayer content. Read as much as you can and watch youtube videos and you will be cruising the stars soon enough :D. Keep at it and see you out there!
