Engineers Tutorial please

Since I am not willing to pay for an beta access as I am not a fan of a bugged version, can someone please answer the following questions?

New update, yay, maybe this will be awesome!

Okey, got like, what, 8 invitations? Bleh. Copy and paste text delete them all after reading the first. Okay cool 4 Engineer locations. Take ship X and go there to try'em out. Hm, I can't drop down to the surface (stuck in orbital cruise 100% frequence. A case for the task manager! Retry - failed. Go to solo and oh wow it works (FD your netcoding is in a really terrible state)).
Finally, docked. These stations actually look pretty cool. Let's see. Engineers workshop. Power Distributor modifications, exactly what I need!
Oh, I need to pay 500k cr to get access? No problem if it is credits what you need. Here ya go, take it.
Level one access, ugh. Not really useful modifications, I think ima skip these. But wait ...

Question one: How to level up with an Engineers besides buying useless modifcations and wasting materials?
Question two: Where do I find these weird sounding items like electronical thingy dingies? Can I buy these or are these materials/drops found on planets? What kind of items are these?
Question three: I know the devs told us that there is a way to focus on a specific mod-effect. Where can I do that?
Question four: Can I reroll without losing the effect for example if the effect is there but the stats are terrible?
Question five: Can I get access to an Engineer without the usual invite variant? (Google)
Question six: Can I store modded modules or swap them between ships so I don't have to mod x5 C6 PDs for all of my ships?
Question seven: Why isn't there a FAS paintjob yet?

:)

Grinding ! No other solution !

Question three: I know the devs told us that there is a way to focus on a specific mod-effect. Where can I do that?

May be in 2.2 or 2.3...

Question four: Can I reroll without losing the effect for example if the effect is there but the stats are terrible?

No, reroll, mean loosing spatial effect.

Question five: Can I get access to an Engineer without the usual invite variant? (Google)

No.

Question six: Can I store modded modules or swap them between ships so I don't have to mod x5 C6 PDs for all of my ships?

Store NO, swap, yes, but you have 10 minutes to swap.

one - We are supposed to be able to use other methods to gain rep with the engineers (aside from modding items) but that could be in a later patch (before 2.2)

two - in the engineers menus, when they ask for items (materials) you can hover over said items and get a pop up hint as to how to obtain them)

Three - coming in a later patch (before 2.2)

Four - Not as far as I know but again could come in a later patch (before 2.2)

Five - No you have to be invited by crossing some kind of level with something (Like being awesome!) You will be blown to bits if you try to land at an engineer base without an invite.

Six - Not yet but again possibly in a later patch

Seven - No Idea :)

Thanks for the answers. Guess until this will happen Ima wait for a patch. :)

The rest of the update is really great, so much life added .. forget about the engineers themselves until the patch, but carry on in game as you will gain valuable resources for your upgrades and the game is flipping awesome now. :)

While playing solo, you can totally hidden the Engineers part and enjoy the rest.

All I'm doing is visiting each engineer and writing down what mats I need for upgrades I'd like. I'll then just go on my merry way and do my own thing, looking out for the mats, but not necessarily grinding them.

This is a nice plan. I did hundreds of builds in beta. I know what to look for and what not too now. So somethng marginal that is always marginal, no problem, no waste. I got a 80% shield Booster once after 20 rolls. That was awesome.

The new meta will be to complain about the RNG. it's supposed to be 10% specials but I was getting 3 % is before beta plug was pulled.

This is over hundreds of builds.

Be well :)

Would do but basic stuff hasn't got fixed yet and this for ages now. Especially the networking is in a terrible state. 100% frequence to get stuck in orbital cruise, instancing problems with other players, instance breakings, more than one instance per system. Ping over 3k.
And now the AI just now when I logged in the first time I got a message from a friend immediatly claiming NPCs would stand still in a CZ not shooting back (free credits) so I am all but impressed by this update.
The visuals on planets still look like plastic from a distance and so do the ships (especially at a medium distance), the new engineer bases look cool overall but close up I see whole pixels of what should be a tree (prolly to save resources, which is a bad thing. Do not be lazy please).

Credit cap is still utterly low (Viper/Vulture level; You can do ALL extreme bounty/combat missions with a Viper/Vulture -> no need to progress in PvE beyond that).
Yet another grind o' materials.
I haven't tried missions yet but I highly doubt I get anything worth 5m cr/h or even close to that number and considering PP has provided me with 10m cr/h this is really bad as PP is the only real way to grind credits if you fall asleep while doing what people call trading and what I call hauling.

I do not want to say the engineers update is bad overall but FD simply doesn't listens to a specific critique of the community: Fix stuff before adding new content that needs to be fixed as well.
Sure, no developer gets moneyfor fixing bugs and gameplay stuff but on the other hand players like me do not play anymore as we either get bored away or annoyed by all the to-do things that haven't been done for months (if not, even a year now).

See, I do lose trust in FD over time, especially when they claim something like "We want PvP to be very rare but very rewarding and risky at the same time." and look around. It is the complete opposite. PvP is a high risk (if you go against another PvPer), not even low but NO reward feature and pretty common. Basically the playground for those who are bored by the AI as like 10 Anacondas can't even get my Python.
Geez.

I don't play solo. But I am forced to at the moment since I am stuck in orbital cruise 100% of the time.

Open or not at all. SO it is not at all for now. :p
