TV settings on the X

Any tips on fine tuning the tv settings for ED on the Xbox one x? Always seems so dark. I’m rocking a 55 inch Sony 900E

Set tv to default and game to default....then follow the Xbox settings guide to a T

edit:

i run the highest bit also it seems to look sharper....it’s in the screen where you select HDMI or RGB.

The answer is going to be, unfortunately, "it depends." Every TV is different and even every individual unit of the same TV model is different. Have you ever calibrated your TV? The tool included with the Xbox One X would at least be a start. From there depending on your level of commitment (and available funds!) you can get a self-calibration tool like a Spyder or you can pay a couple hundred for a pro to do it.

Anywho, you ought to calibrate first, then make in-game adjustments as needed. I would not suggest adjusting the TV's calibration settings to suit the game, adjust the game's settings to suit your desired result. If it's too dark (after calibration), boost the gamma of the game.

Do you have the 4K and HDR working correctly? I had to go through a couple of hoops to get the X to correctly recognize the UHD-ness of TV through my AVR, but once it's working it's glorious. Get that working first, then calibrate, then nudge the game settings if you need.

I appreciate the input. The Sony 900 series is capable of so much more than the generic Xbox setup though. If I ran it default I wouldn’t deserve it lol. I just figured somebody would have done some very fine tuning and could share their wisdom :)

Im not saying to run it in default.
Im suggesting to do the Xbox one x from default first.

I run run the new LG out of default but the first time I didn’t start with default and if you play HDR it may look funny. Now I’ve redone it and WOW!!!!

everygame is awesome and i don’t have to adjust anything anymore. Your tv like mine has seperate hdr settings than non hdr

i went from default and then tweaked it but the Xbox setup suggests this so it’s the best way to do it.....

I just set the Xbox to "4K HDR", leave my 75" Sharp TV in standard mode most of the time (forget to change it to gaming all the time) and games look fantastic. If I can do more with settings let me know!

All gaming mode does is reduce the input lag of the screen, but it degrades the picture quality as a trade off. Wouldn't really recommend it for a game like ED, where that tiny bit of extra input lag doesn't make much of a difference

Hi mate

i Have sony Bravia 55 xe

I wouldnt recommend using xbox calibration tool - if i use this the picture is so dark

in xbox settings set colour depth to 10-bit - i think our sonys only have 10 bit panel

Picture settings i run either standard or game (bravias have amazingly little input lag so game not really needed)

Brightness 25
contrast 90
black level 50
colour 45
colour temp warm
sharpness 60

Make sure to turn OFF any advanced setting like motionflow, noise reduction etc etc

In the advance picture menu i have gamma +1

In game i have gamma 1 click right of halfway and dash brightness half

I currently running 4k performance mode as if i run Quality i get constant buzz crashes

Let me know if this helps

PS Iceberg - you know you have to enable 4k on the hdmi port on Sonys dont you? and use HDMI 2 not 1

Yeah pretty strange! I followed a guys YouTube vid for fine tuning the tv with bf1. But in ED it looks very dark and I’m getting major eye strain.

Dont do that.
The TV manufacturers have guides and their reps sometimes are in stores for the holidays.

Ive only heard to start from default on the TV and console. Follow the console official guides and tweak from there for personal preference.
Your TV and environment make a BIG difference so no one else can tell you what settings to you in your house or room
